eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines. Bursts of gascharged magma exploded into umbrella ash clouds, hot flows of
gas and ash descended the volcano's flanks and lahars swept
down valleys.

November 1985. Although the eruption was small, it caused
a large mud flow which swept through the town of Armero
almost 40 km away from the summit where more than 23,000
people were killed.

of smoke and ash some 2,000 meters above the volcano's summit. No flights were
affected from the event. On 28 June, water vapour and volcanic ash emission were
detected from Mount Agung up to two kilometres into the air. The Ngurah Rai Airport
was closed due to the event.
