immediate area. It's estimated that at least twenty pyroclastic flows – avalanches of hot

November 1985. Although the eruption was small, it caused
a large mud flow which swept through the town of Armero
almost 40 km away from the summit where more than 23,000
people were killed.

Information of latest eruption:Agung erupted on 12 June, sending plumes
of smoke and ash some 2,000 meters above the volcano's summit. No flights were
affected from the event. On 28 June, water vapour and volcanic ash emission were
detected from Mount Agung up to two kilometres into the air. The Ngurah Rai Airport
was closed due to the event.

since at least 1774 and has been characterized by Strombolian and Vulcanian
