APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM AT THE OFFICE OF THE MUNICIPAL AGRICULTURIST, LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNIT OF SAN MIGUEL, BULACAN, PHILIPPINES Introduction The founders of the municipality of San Miguel de Mayumo were Miguel Pineda, the town's first mayor, Carlos Agustin Maniquiz, and his wife Maria Juana Puno in 1763. The Municipal Agriculture Office was founded to provide resources, infrastructure development, and education to assist nearby farmers. High-yield crop varieties, innovative methods for farming, and sustainable agriculture practices were all greatly supported by the office. The mission of Municipal agriculture office of San Miguel is "We are committed to pursue the provision of sustainable and effective programs for farmers' and fisherfolks' productivity and profitability” The Vision is "A God-centered, community friendly and responsive organization where its people are working as a team in the spirit of commitment and innovation for agricultural development" 2 THE DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES THAT CARRIED OUT DURING APPRENTICESHIP FARMERS FIELD SCHOOL • This is one of my favorite activities: Farmers Field School, which is held every Thursday in Sta. Lucia, San Miguel. • Agro-ecosystem analysis collects data from maize plant samples to measure plant height, length, width, number of leaves, and damage. Our technicians, Sir Nick and Ma'am Renalyn, train the farmers who are present. • Sir Nick tells the farmers over and over that their goal is to increase knowledge so they can plant Better, whatever crop they want like maize. 4 REPORTING OF AGRO-ECOSYSTEM ANALYSIS AND TEACHING OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF WEEDS • Then after obtaining data at Farmers Field School, we assist farmers in creating their agro-ecosystem reports. The report includes field data that can be used to show the increase in height and width of maize. • We also had the opportunity to teach them about different types of weeds, such as grasses, broad leaves, and sedges. This was explained to help them understand. I was glad to share my knowledge with them. 5 DEWORMING OF LIVESTOCK • DEWORMING OF PREGNANT ANIMALS. WE ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH THE TECHNICIANS IN DEWORMING LIVESTOCK IN LAMBAKIN, SAN MIGUEL BULACAN. WE'VE BEEN DEWORMING THE GOATS AND CATTLE • . I WAS WITH SIR JOEL AND OTHER TECHNICIANS, AND MY TASK WAS TO GATHER INFORMATION OR DATA ON THE GENDER, AGE, AND BREED OF ANIMALS THAT THEY COULD DEWORM. • THE AMOUNT NEEDED IS FOR ADULT CATTLE AND CARABAO IS 25-30 ML, WHILE IN GOAT AGE 1-3 MONTHS IS ONLY 1 ML, AND WHEN THEY ARE ADULT THE AMOUNT IS 2-3 ML THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULDN'T ALLOW THE 6 ENCODING OF RICE CROP MANAGER • This was the first activity we completed on the first day of the apprenticeship. The technician here, which are Ma’am Janna, Sir Gelo and Ma’am Trisha taught us how to appropriately encode this paper work by explaining the RCM, or Rice Crop Manager to us. • The farmers' information is highly detailed in this Rice Crop Manager, including how many hectares their area is, how many they harvest or should harvest in one hectare of land, and what fertilizer they use. This will help farmers to be informed of how much fertilizer they need. 7 SORTING AND PRINTING OF FERTILIZER VOUCHER We sorted this voucher, and I discovered that San Miguel was consist of 49 barangays. This voucher will help farmers in receiving free fertilizer based on the amount specified on their fertilizer voucher. This is one of the benefits that farmers obtain for their farms. 8 INTERVIEWING THE FARMER FOR THE CROP INSURA NCE • We are trained to interview farmers to gather information about their farms and enter it into our database. This is done for their benefit, as we are aware that various calamities may occur. • You need to insure your crop once you plant it, because it is no longer valid if your crops are planting for more than 30 days. When the day of planting, whether direct sowing or trans planting, as well as the neighboring areas of their farm in the north, south, east, and west. 9 PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED • The farmer who became angry during our conversation since farmers are now receiving financial assistance. A farmer once asked why he didn't get it and why the other farmers got it. • The problems I encountered occurred throughout my time in the Farmers Field Training. I meet farmers for the first time who were unkind or unwilling to listen because they just knew what they know and didn't follow guidelines. He followed their instinct rather than the correct instruction 10 RECOMMENDATIONS (ORGANIZATION/ENTERPRISE PLAN) Best practices Organizational issues Recommendat Time frame ion Good Lack of Man power Add more man communication and power cooperation with co-employees The Assessment phase- (1-2 weeks) Estimated Budgetary Requirement 15,000-20,000 pesos The recruitment planning-(2-4 weeks) The recruitment process- (4-6 weeks) Support from the Lack of Man power Give more Supervisor, mayors, compensation LGU of San Miguel and etc. 1-2 months 50,000-100,000 depends on the number of employees 11 THANK YOU PO
