What were Rizal’s impression on the following places?
•Singapore
- He was impressed by the city's greenery and noted that its population seemed assured of their rights.
However, he found the city less attractive in 1887, and observed in 1891 and 1896 how much it had
changed
•Naples
- After Singapore, Rizal went on board the French steamer Djemnah. It was here that he improved his
French since most of the passengers speak the language.
•Marseilles
-Arrived in Marseilles on June 12, 1882 for a two-and-a-half-day visit. He described it as “the most
ancient commercial city that perhaps exists.” Notably, he visited the Chateau d’If, where Dantes (hero of
the Count of Monte Cristo) was imprisoned
•Colombo
-Jose Rizal’s frequent visits to Colombo in the 1880’s, with his love for the city captured in his writing:
“Colombo is more beautiful, smart and elegant than Singapore, Point Galle and Manila…”
Points to ponder Item no. 2
“A son can pay honor to his parents thru honesty and good name”, Explain.
Integrity Is uprightness or a state of being of sound moral principle. Rizal’s honesty was the
result of his constant love and search for the truth, He possessed I to a high degree of excellence
which everyone of us should imitate. Let’s forget, sincerity is a sign of humility, the virtue which
makes us know the truth about ourselves, to accept the truth and live according to it. The basic
element of humility is the acceptance that whatever we possess we owe to God who has
planned a duty for us.
