What would you attempt to do if
you knew that you wouldn’t fail?
How we spend our days is how we
spend our life

What is a goal?
A goal is what a person tries to accomplish
through behaviour and actions
Difference between goal and dream
Dream
Dream is a fantasy.It
does not have
boundaries
Dream is a goal without
legs
Dream can be guiding
passion of your life.
Goal
Goal is more clear and vivid
target that you want to
attain.
Goal is always accompanied
with a plan.
It is an aim/objective that
you want to achieve.
5
“
When you focus on the problem
you loose your goal and when you
focus on your goal you lose your
problem
6
Focus on the solution
“

Setting goals
What are my values?
What drives me?
What do I ultimately want to achieve?
Why do I want to achieve that?
What would my best friend and/or partner say my
goals are?
8
Importance of goals:
Convert ideas into doable milestones
Have control on the direction of your life
Goals
Concentrate and use your time more
effectively
Being positive

SMART GOALS
12
Specific Goal Setting
Describes what you want to accomplish with as
much detail as possible
Vague goals lessen the possibility of attaining them
E.g.s
I want to do well in English
I want an “A” on my next composition.
13
Measurable Goal Setting
Describes goals in terms that can be clearly evaluated
No measurement means that a task or goal will never
be attained
E.g.s
I want to study my biology text.
I want to study chapter 7 and answer all the questions.
Short-term: “Tomorrow, I will write chapter X.”
Long-term : “At the end of this year, I have written two
books.”
14
Achievable Goal Setting
Identifies a goal that focuses on actions rather than
personal qualities
Goal must have an action in order to complete it
E.g.s
I want a better attitude about studying.
I want to complete all assignments before classes.
Approach : “I will finish writing chapter 4.”
Avoidance : “I will try to avoid not finishing chapter 4.”
15
Realistic Goal Setting
Identifies goals that are actually able to be attained
Goals can be challenging but not unrealistic
E.g.s
Tonight I’ll read half of my book and complete the
assignments.
Tonight I’ll read two chapters of my book and
complete the assignments.
Learning : “I will complete this course so that I can
improve my writing skills.”
Performance : “I will complete this course so that
others will praise me.”
16
Time Bound Goal Setting
Identifies goals that break a longer term goal into shorter
term goals and clearly specifies a completion date
e.g.s
I want to graduate with honors.
I want to make to the dean’s list this semester.
Process: “I will write three pages every day.”
End-state : “I will finish writing this book.”
17
SMART GOAL EXAMPLE
Weak Goal Example: I’m going to get fit.
SMART Goal Example:
Specific: I’m going to start running daily and train for a marathon.
Measurable: I will follow the Nike app training program to run a full
marathon without stopping.
Achievable: I have done some running before, my body is
reasonably healthy, and the marathon is 6 months from now.
Relevant: I want to become a fit, healthy, and strong person — I
want to be full of vitality, energy, and zest for life!
Time-bound: I have signed up for a marathon 6 months from now.

 Be aware of the road to achieving your goals as you are of the
goals themselves
 Always ask yourself. Is this really important?
 Always remember that achieving your goals takes discipline
