LITERARY TECHNIQUES/DEVICES
• IN MEDIA RES - It starts out in the middle of events, presuming that the reader
or listener is aware of what has come before. Most often, when narration or
storytelling begins in the middle of a story, the author chooses to eventually move
backward.
• FLASHBACK interrupts the chronological order of the plot to recollect an event in
the past.
• FORESHADOWING gives clues and hints as to the fate of the characters.
• SUSPENSE used to keep their readers’ interest alive throughout the work. It is a
feeling of anticipation that something risky or dangerous is about to happen.
