A-LEVEL SUBJECT
SELECTION - BLOCK SCHEDULE
We offer both Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) and BTEC
Courses. All CAIE subjects will be assessed at Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level in
May-June. The full A Level Course will be assessed at the end of Year 13, in
May-June.
Year 12 students may take the following options:
Guided by your career and university progression interests,
1. Select four subjects from the A Level Subjects’ Block Schedule. Each of the four
subjects should be offered in a different Block (A, B, C, D, E and F). You will have
an option of dropping one subject in Year 13. Some students, however, opt to
progress with the four subjects in Year 13 in order to keep their University
options open.
2. Select three subjects from the A Level Subjects’ Block Schedule and one 60
Credits BTEC, with the option of dropping one CAIE subject in Year 13.
3. Select two CAIE subjects and one 90 Credits BTEC. No subject will be dropped
or added at Year 13.
Care should be taken when selecting subjects as:
- Those intending to proceed to local universities will require at least two full A
Levels. They will need to select at least 2 CAIE subjects and keep these two
subjects in Year 13.
- Number of A Levels selected should align with the expectations of the
international University that one is planning to join.
- A Level subjects selected should align with the University requirements for the
Course that one is interested in pursuing.
- Some few CAIE subjects are only offered at Advanced Subsidiary Level (Year 12)
and will not be considered as full A Levels. The subjects that are only available at
Advanced Subsidiary level include French. German, Mandarin and Environmental
Management.
The following programmes are compulsory for all students:
- Career and University guidance.
- Games.
- Clubs.
