Document No.: FM-SO-29-00 Effective Date: July 18, 2018 PROJECT DESCRIPTION The project is all about turning waste into an eco-brick. An eco-brick is a construction material made entirely of non-recyclable plastic. It is made by packing clean, dry plastic into a plastic bottle until it's tightly packed and ready to use as a building block. The community residents are assigned to create eco-bricks that come from the waste generated in their respective homes. They can make as many as possible of eco-bricks within each month. Every last two (2) days of every month, these eco-bricks will be collected by the barangay officials to be sold at various eco-brick companies in the Philippines. When these eco-bricks are sold, the residents are given a percentage money cut for their efforts, while the remaining cash will go to the barangay's treasury funds for other purposes. This project intends to minimize the waste generated by the community's residents while making money by doing an environment-friendly activity. Lastly, when everyone participates, there will be much less hassle since the garbage needed to be collected by the garbage collectors is decreased significantly. III. PROJECT RATIONALE The rationale of this project is to generate additional money for the barangay while doing an environmentally-friendly activity. It also aims to train the barangay's residents to be disciplined and mindful of their waste generation at home. The project is based on the landfill near the neighborhood, which is notorious for its pollution and foul scent. Additionally, the said barangay is near the city of Malolos, Bulacan, which may have indirectly caused pollution to its residents due to its rapid development in the past few years. Lastly, this project is significant since it will help the residents develop discipline and receive a percentage money cut for every sold eco-brick. The residents in the area can also improve and achieve unity, thus improving the quality of life in their community as well. IV. PROJECT BENEFICIARIES The beneficiaries of the said project are the following: Barangay Residents – The barangay residents will be the project's primary driving force. If every resident fully participates, waste generation will be reduced significantly, and overall quality of life will improve. Barangay officials – They will be in charge of continuing the project once it has been launched in the community. Moreover, they will be the ones to collect the residents' eco-bricks and sell them to various eco-brick companies. Furthermore, after the eco-bricks are sold, they will be the ones to distribute the percentage money cut to the residents. Eventually, this project will benefit them because it will increase the barangay's funds, which can be used for other community projects. V.
