For easiest results, please read through the instructions before you begin. To make the cowl: A) Work Beginning Border. B) Work the Body Section. C) Complete the Finishing and Blocking instructions. ♥♥♥ Beginning Border Cast on 150 stitches. Join for working in the round, and place marker to mark the beginning of round. To make the circumference of the cowl smaller or larger, cast on any multiple of 6 sts ~ each multiple will adjust the width by just over 1” if you are working at the stated gauge. A) Work 8 rounds in seed stitch as follows: Rnd 1: *k1, p1; repeat from * to end of round Rnd 2: *p1, k1; repeat from * to end of round Rnds 3-8: repeat rnds 1 and 2 Page 3 © 2018 Melanie Rice A Small Gift ~ Knitting Pattern Body Section Repeat rnds 1-44 of the chart below, with either rnd 22 or rnd 44 as your last rnd worked. Roll the cowl in towels to remove excess water. For blocking seamless non-tapered cowls, I use the paper-towel-roll method (see photo below): a) Put one or two paper towel rolls end to end and wrap one doubled bath towel around them. b) Pin the towel in place by pushing pins through the paper towel rolls. You only need a couple of pins to hold this towel – just enough to keep the paper towels from slipping. c) Wrap one more doubled bath towel around the roll and pin in place again. d) Repeat last step until the circumference of your towel roll is just under the desired circumference of your cowl (large enough to fit the cowl, but not stretch it out) e) Slip the damp cowl onto the towel roll like a pillow case. f) Smooth the cowl (gently) in place, or use pins. g) Let the cowl dry completely before removing pins. pin through the paper towel roll to secure Page 5 © 2018 Melanie Rice A Small Gift ~ Knitting Pattern
