Email Practice for BCIT School of Business
Email to Subaru Canada Dealers
Regarding Changes to Packaging Material
Background information
Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) manufactures Subaru cars and parts. The factory is located in
Ota City, Japan. You work for Subaru of Canada, and your division is responsible for
importing Subaru Automotive Parts and delivering them to automotive dealers across
Canada.
A few months ago FHI changed the way it packages automotive parts. Instead of Styrofoam,
FHI is now using environmentally-friendly packaging that can be completely recycled after
shipping.
Situation
You have received 12 complaints from dealers about the new packaging: the new
packaging is difficult to open. (There are 300 Subaru Dealers in Canada.) You have passed
this information on to FHI, but your Japanese counterparts responded that the new
packaging has many benefits over the previous packaging. The packaging is



15% cheaper
25% lighter (which reduces shipping costs)
100% recyclable
Your Japanese counterpart recommends that dealers use a box cutter to
open the packages. Packages can no longer be opened by hand.
Your task
Write an open email to all Subaru dealers in Canada. Use proper email formatting.
You want Subaru dealers to understand and accept the new packaging. You also want
dealers to recycle the packaging material.
