DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE AND HEALTH IN GRADE VI I. Objectives: 1. Indentify producers and consumers as parts of a food chain. 2. Differentiate producers from consumers. 3. Define food chain. 4. Analyze and describe the flow of energy and nutrient through a food chain. II. Subject Matter: Topic: Food Chain a. Reference: BEC Handbook in Science 6, 11.2 1.2. p. 10 Into the Future, Science and Health 6, p.62-63 Journey into the World of Science 6, p, 62-63 b. Materials: Food Chain Chart, Cut-out of organism (Ex. One activity envelop contains 4-6 images of organisms. c. Skills Involve: Defining term, analyzing, describing and identifying d. Science Concepts: The feeding sequence of organism in a community which always begin with a producer is called a food chain. In a food chain energy in the form of food is transferred from producers to consumers. e. Value Focus: Appreciating Symbiotic Relationship III. Procedure: Teacher’s Activity A. Preparatory Activity Good Morning Children! Okay, everybody stand and let us pray. (Our Father) Pupil’s Activity Children: Good morning Ma’am! (Do what is told) (Praying)… Class how are you today? Very good… Children: Were fine Ma’am. Okay class who is absent? Okay very good! Children: None Ma’am. Class before we start our lesson let us sing first.. Everybody stand! Do you know the action song entitled Banana? Okay, let us sing. Very good class! Please take your sit. (Do what is told) Children: Yes, Ma’am! (Children are singing) Class let us read first our agreement. Everybody read. (Listen Attentively and Participate Actively) (Children are reading) Okay you need to listen and participate actively so that you can understand our lesson. Do you understand class? Okay class! let us review our past lesson to determine if you still remember. Children: Yes, Ma’am. What was our topic yesterday class? Very good! What are those parts of the plants can you give me one? Yes, Rowena! Okay, Rowena! Great! Another one? Okay, very good! Janizza: Part of the Plants Ma’am. Who can name all the different parts of the plants? Gil: The different parts of plants are flower, leaves, stem, fruit and roots. Rowena: leave’s Ma’am. Cha: roots Ma’am! Very good! B. Motivation Okay class! Do you know the song Bahay Kubo? Children: Yes,Ma’am! What vegetables are mentioned in the song can you give me one Grace? Grace: Talong Very good! Another, Yes Tanyap! Very good! Tanyap: Sigarilyas So class do you eat vegetables? Very good! Children: Yes we are. So class why do we need to eat vegetables? Yes, that’s right! Joylyn: to become healthy and strong ma’am Do you all believe that vegetables are foods that are good for our health? Very good children! Children: Yes Ma’am C. Presentation I have here an illustration of an organism Corn worm bird rat cat How are we going to read it? Or how we are going to interpret the arrow? (Answer-The arrow is read as – eaten by) Okay, class I am going to read it first, then after me you do the same. Do you understand class? Children: Yes, we are! Everybody read! (Children are reading) (The corn is eaten by the worm, energy in the form of food is now pass on to the worm. The worm is eaten by the bird some energy from the plant which is in the worm is now transferred to the bird. The bird is eaten by the rat. Less energy from the plant is now in the rat and the rat is eaten by the cat, the cat receives the least energy from the plant. Okay class, what have you noticed of these illustration or what is this illustration all about? Yes, Joylyn? Yes you’re right, very good! Joylyn: Food chain Ma’am! So our topic for today is all about food chain. A food chain is a feeding sequence of organism in a community. A food chain always begin with producers also called authotrops. These producers are the green plants around us chlorophyll which is the green coloring of the plants is change to starch and sugar with the help of sunlight, carbon dioxide and water. These now serves as the food for the plants. This process called photosynthesis. The animals that feed on the plants are called consumers, animals that feed directly on plants are called first order consumers. They receive great amount of energy from the plants. The amount of energy decreases as it transfers to the next order consumers. Do you understand class? Class I have here another illustration of a food chain with the decomposer. Grass is eaten by the grasshopper, grasshopper is eaten by the frog, and the frog is eaten by the snake, the snake is eaten by the eagle. When the eagle die the dead body of the eagle will decompose with the help of fungi and bacteria. This bacteria and fungi are called decomposer. Decay materials will fertilize the soil and it can use again the grass. D. Unlocking the difficult words found in the topic. Okay class let us unlock some difficult words that are found in the topic. Direction: Pick the correct word and paste it to its corresponding meaning. Children are listening. Children: Yes,Ma’am! Producers: Organism: Organism that can produce their own food. all living things. Consumers: Organism that they can’t produce their own food. Predator: The animals that eat other animals. Prey: The animals that being eaten. Ecosystem: All living and nonliving things in an area. Decomposer: Living organism which feeds off dead plants and animals. E. Discussion Okay class, What can we get from the food. Very good! Rowena: Energy Ma’am! Why plants are called producers? Very good! Rosie: because they can make their own food. What is a consumer? Very good! Janizza: organism that they cannot make their own food. Class, is the amount of energy of food received by the higher order consumers the same or less than that eaten by the lower order consumers? Tanyap: less than Ma’am! F. Generalization What is a food chain? Everybody read. (A food chain is a feeding sequence of organisms in an ecosystem. It always begin with a producers which Is the source of energy in the form of food). Children are reading. G. Application Differentiated Instruction/Activities Okay class, I will group you into 3 groups. Count 1 to 3, all 1 will be the group 1, all number 2 will be group 2 and all number 3 will be the group 3. Are you ready class? Very good. I have here three enveloped for Group 1,2 and 3. Inside this enveloped contained certain instruction that you must follow. Then select a leader to discuss your work. If your group can answer correctly then your group will receive a reward from me. Do you understand class? Okay! You may start now, I will give you 10 minutes to finish your work. Group 1. Children: Yes, we are ready Ma’am. Children: Yes, Ma’am! Group 1, are doing their task. Assemble the picture and construct a food chain. Group 2. Encircle the producers and box the consumers and X the decomposer. Group 2, are doing their task. Group 3. Paste the pictures whether plant eater, meat eaters and both plant and meat eaters. Group 3, are doing their task. Okay, are you done! Let us check all your work. IV . Evaluation True or False Write T if the statement is true and write F if the statement is false. (2pts. Each) 1. moss – tadpole – tilapia – dalag is a food chain found in grassy community. 2. cows – worms – insects and horses are consumers. 3. Plants are called consumers because they can make their own food. 4. The process by which plants make their own food is called photosynthesis. 5. Food chain always begin with a producer. Children are answering. Answer key: 1. F 2. T 3. F 4. T 5. T V. Assignment Copy and answer this at your home. Construct a food chain found in your home. Children are copying.
