How are skeletal muscles attached to bones? Skeletal muscles attach to the bones with tendons. 4. Explain why many skeletal muscles must work in opposing pairs. Skeletal muscles work in opposing pairs because they only pull in one direction. When one contracts, the other contracts in the opposite direction. This allows for two directional bending.
