ENERGY PYRAMID

Also known as a trophic or ecological pyramid.
•
It depicts the production, use and transfer of energy from one trophic level or another.
•
As you go higher the trophic levels, the amount of energy decreases.
•
The pyramid base contains producers, while the other organisms in the pyramid are consumers.
•
The consumers at each level feed on organisms from the level below and are themselves
consumed by organisms at the level above
•
It has domino effect, if one of the consumers is removed, it can harm the others because they
may not have enough to eat, and could end up with an excessive population of that consumer.
