ABSTRACTION Health is a state of complete physical, mental or intellectual, emotional, social, moral-spiritual and environmental well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (WHO, 1948). The Six Dimensions of Health Physical health it means how well your body functions. It is a state of well- being when all internal and external body parts, organs, tissues and cells can function properly as they are supposed to function. It includes being physically fit, eating nutritiously, and getting adequate rest and sleep. Mental health means being a lifelong learner by continuously wanting to learn new things and improve one’s skills. A mentally healthy person is open to new ideas and experiences that can improve life, family, and environment. He/she is aware of his or her own abilities, can cope normal stresses in life, able to work regularly and productively, and is also able to contribute for the improvement of community Social health refers to how well you get along with other people, how other people react and how you interact with social institutions. It involves your ability to form satisfying interpersonal relationships with others. I also relates to your ability to adapt comfortably to different social situations and act appropriately in a variety of situations. Each of these relationships should include strong communication skills, empathy for others and a sense of accountability. Emotional health involves understanding and liking yourself as well as accepting and learning from your mistakes. It refers to how well you meet the demands of daily life and how you adjust to new situations. It also means expressing your happiness, love, joy and hope as well as your sadness, anger, stress and fear in healthful productive ways Moral-spiritual health means being at peace and in harmony with yourself, others and a higher power. It refers to your religion, principles, personal beliefs, values and faith. It involves the quality of personal relationships or a love of nature. It involves a sense that life has meaning and purpose and that you are in harmony with your purpose in life _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Libas Sud, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur 8301 CP No. (+63) 9504566318 Libas Sud Integrated School 500576@deped.gov.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education Caraga Region SCHOOLS DIVISION OF SURIGAO DEL SUR SAN MIGUEL 1 District LIBAS SUD INTEGRATED SCHOOL __________________________________________________________________________________ Environmental Health means the understanding of the effect to ourselves of the air, the water and the land that surrounds us. To recognize the impact of environmental and human-made hazards and the ability to find ways on how to protect ourselves and the ecological systems against these hazards is important 6 Overall good health and wellness are inter-dependent on six dimensions. Health dimensions are like separate pieces that need to be fitted together to make meaning. A healthy child is active at home and school. He/she is active to do the household routine like cleaning the house and the backyard. He/she has time to join with her/his parents in prayers, attending masses and worship activities. He/she is alert and participative in classroom activities. He/she enjoys being her/his friends, classmates, and other children in the school. He/she also practicing and actively attending the environmental activities in their place like tree planting and waste segregation. Being healthy is much more than not being sick. Your health is made up of physical, mental, social, spiritualmoral and environmental resources that allow you to live a satisfying and productive life. Optimal health indicates a high level of functioning and is often characterized by vitality, a zest for life and a sense of harmony with nature and humanity. The Seven Habits For A Healthy Life: 1.Exercise. Regular exercise is probably the closest we can get to a fountain of youth. 2.Always eat breakfast. Breakfast is often called the most important meal of the day and for good reason. As the name suggests, breakfast breaks the overnight fasting period. It replenishes your supply of glucose to boost your energy levels and alertness, while also providing other essential nutrients required for good health. 3.Practice healthy eating throughout the day. - Keep more fruits, low-fat dairy products (low-fat milk and low-fat yogurt), vegetables, and whole-grain foods at home and at work. ... - Try to eat a family meal every day at the kitchen or dining table. .. - Buy a healthy recipe book, and cook for yourself. 4.Stay hydrated. - Keep a bottle of water with you during the day. - If you don’t like the taste of plain water, try adding a slice of lemon or lime to your drink. - Drink water before, during and after a workout. . - When you’re feeling hungry, drink water. 5.Don’t’ neglect dental hygiene. Dental hygiene refers to the practice of keeping the mouth, teeth, and gums clean and healthy to prevent disease. Dental hygiene and oral health are often taken for granted but are essential parts of our everyday lives. 6.Get enough sleep. Sleep is vital to your well-being. It is as important as the air you breathe, water you drink and the food you eat. Teens need about 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night to function best. 7.Challenge yourself. We all get into ruts, doing the same things day after day, but to keep both body and mind agile, get into the habit of taking on challenges. And don’t feel embarrassed about not being an expert. What are the benefits of good habits? Health habits help combat diseases. It also help prevent certain health conditions, such as heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure. If you take care of yourself, you can keep your cholesterol and blood pressure with in a safe range. This keeps your blood flowing smoothly, decreasing your risk of cardiovascular diseases. Today, three types of definition of health seem to be possible and are used. The first is that health is the absence of any disease or impairment. The second is that health is a state that allows the individual to adequately cope with all demands of daily life (implying also the absence of disease and impairment). The third definition states that health is a state of balance, an equilibrium that an individual has established within himself and between himself and his social and physical environment. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Libas Sud, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur 8301 CP No. (+63) 9504566318 Libas Sud Integrated School 500576@deped.gov.ph Republic of the Philippines Department of Education Caraga Region SCHOOLS DIVISION OF SURIGAO DEL SUR SAN MIGUEL 1 District LIBAS SUD INTEGRATED SCHOOL __________________________________________________________________________________ Let us try to answer the following questions in order to have a clear understanding about good health.
