HEALTH 7: STAGES OF GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT Growth is the progressive increase in the size of a child or parts of a child. Development - is progressive acquisition of various skills (abilities) such as head support, speaking, learning, expressing the feelings and relating with other people. Growth and development go together but at different rates. Human Development is a lifelong process of understanding the changes happening in one’s life such as physical, behavioral, cognitive, and emotional growth and change it started from infancy stage up to the last stage which is the old age There are eight stages of life according to Erikson’s Theory: 01 Infancy Started from birth up 18 months old. At this stage, infant is always dependent and establish trust and mistrust. 02 Early Childhood Personal control, performing basic actions and making simple decisions were established in this stage. Inadequacy and self-doubt might be felt by the child will be left behind. 03 Preschool The start of being independent and establishing social interaction with their family. This stage leads to sense of purpose if the child is successfully guided. 04 School Age creates feeling of pride in their achievements and capacities, capability and convictions in their skills. 05 Adolescence Stage considered as the transitional stage, time of discovery and disorientation. The start of puberty in which changes happen. Proper guidance should be monitored. 06 Young Adult the condition of investigating individual connections creates closeness and serious relationships with others. 07 Adulthood stage having a family and career is the common focus of this stage. They feel that they are contributing to the world by being active in their home and community. 08 Old Age the stage of reflections, what you have done in the past.
