pandemic crisis.

Introduction
COVID-19 has been declared a pandemic that triggers a public health
emergency worldwide. Its impact on people, their health, businesses, stock markets,
and other pillars of the global economy needs no emphasis. To deal with the
uncertainties and fight COVID-19, governments across the world have implemented
various degrees of restrictions. Different people react differently to complexities and
uncertainties, including feelings of loss of control, anxiety around well-being, and
conjectures around financial insecurity.
The coronavirus outbreak is dramatically changing our lives, including our
relationships with other people in our communities, our families, our homes and our
workplaces. Millions of us have lost some or all of our normal ways of seeing others
as we try to keep each other safe. Because of the abrupt change in our lifestyle, it
eventually affects our everyday routine. For instance, students go to school from
Monday to Friday and parents go to work on the same day, while Saturdays and
Sundays are mostly spent with family and with God, but these does not happen
anymore. This routine suddenly changes because of the uncontrollable situation
such as this pandemic. How are you going to manage this change? This situation is
inevitable, as it is these events that challenge us and force us to step out of our
comfort zone. If we ignore or hide away from the challenge of change, we deny
1
ourselves the opportunity to learn and grow. It is during this time that we can test
one’s resiliency in life and know how to manage these challenges in a positive way.
Activity
Think of the changes that you have experienced over the last month. This
could include moving, changing hairstyle, changing friendships, hobbies, someone
dying, body changes, having more responsibility. Then, write it on the table below
according to sudden change, difficult change and exciting change.
Write your
answers on your reflection notebook.

Analysis
Managing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic can be very challenging for
your family. You have been forced to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances, make
difficult choices, and deal with disruptions at home, at work, and in your community.
It is not always easy, but there are strategies you can use to cope and build
resilience. Let us see how well you adapt to changes by ticking the appropriate
column for your answer:
Copy and answer the table below on your reflection
notebook.
1. Increase Sense of Safety
I wear mask when going out of the house
I wash my hands
I use hand sanitizer/alcohol.
I observed social distancing.
I stay home.
2. Increase Calming
I make time to unwind by doing what I enjoy
e.g. drawing, dancing, singing etc.
I exercise.
I eat healthy foods.
I sleep 8 hours a day.
3. Connect with Each Other
I talk with everyone in the family.
I listen when others are talking.
I keep in touch with my relatives and friends
2
Always
Sometimes
Never
by using phone and social media.
We share household task to exercise
responsibility.
4. Build Personal and Family
Competence
I love and respect everyone in the family.
I don’t argue with my parents.
I am reprimanded by my parents when I
make mistake.
I apologize when I am wrong.
Abstraction
The strategies can help develop on your own a difference in maintaining your
family's hope, ability to endure, connectedness, ability to remain calm, and safety.
They may even become healthy habits that keep your family strong through other
times in your life together. Remember that as you practice these actions, you do not
need to be perfect or steady at all times. Do your best, be kind to yourself, and
remember that anything you do to role model these types of strategies will help you
as adults and caregivers of yourself.
Application
Now that you already know the strategies on how to manage change, answer
the following on your reflection notebook:
Thoughts:
You feel depressed because you were
not able to go out and play with your
friends.
How can these be made positive?
Closing
Illustrate on your reflection notebook how you can best cope with the changes
during this pandemic.
