N3335 Promoting Healthy Lifestyles Carbon Footprint Analysis Name: Louis Manga Date: 10/29/2022 Overview: Carbon Footprint Analysis Carbon Footprint is one of the most common ways to measure the effect an individual, family, organization, or country has on the environment. You will use an online tool to calculate your own (or your family’s) carbon footprint. Then you will propose three steps you can take to reduce your impact on the environment. Objective: Describe one’s own impact on the environment and three ways to reduce that impact. Rubric Use this rubric to guide your work on the assignment, “Carbon Footprint Analysis.” Task Accomplished Proficient Complete, answer in tons with realistic calculation Complete, but did not correctly identify answer in “tons” or calculation inaccurate Carbon Footprint Calculation (Total 40 points) (40 points) Action Plan: Three steps clearly presented with rationale 3 specific things you can or description change to decrease your carbon footprint (60 points-20 points each) (Total 60 points) 2020 College of Nursing and Health Innovation (30 points) Needs Improvement Not completed (0 points) Steps are ambiguous/vague, no rationale or description Incomplete or inappropriate steps (30 points-10 points each) (0 points) 1 N3335 Promoting Healthy Lifestyles Calculating Your Carbon Footprint Complete the carbon footprint analysis at https://www3.epa.gov/carbon-footprint-calculator/ Be sure your result is in tons of carbon dioxide rather than pounds Record your footprint value in the space below. 46465 lbs. /2000 = 23 tons Action Plan List three specific things you can change to decrease your carbon footprint. Include a rationale or description of why/how each of your actions will decrease your carbon footprint. You may find many suggestions in the Readings and Media section for this week. 1. My home energy contributed 14.22 tons of CO2 per year to the environment. If I take action to reduce my energy consumption, I will reduce to 9.34 tons of CO2 and I will save about $1,338 a year in energy bill. I currently rent an apartment that has no gas line. I do change my air filter regularly, so I can only cut on my electricity bill to reduce my carbon footprint. 2. Most lightbulbs in my apartment are energy star products, except those in the restroom and in the living room which are LED lightbulbs. I noticed because I took action to use green power energy, I save about 125% of my electricity bill and reducing about 12.3 tons of CO2. At the end of my electricity contract, I will switch to green energy. 3. I do not have much knowledge about car mechanical maintenance and most of the time, I show up to the mechanic when my carboard signal maintenance. Regular maintenance on my car is something I will do to reduce the CO2 and save a lot of money on. Bringing my car to mechanic at least once every two months will help with preventative maintenance so that issues can be dealt with before they are major. 2020 College of Nursing and Health Innovation 2
