For my Community Toolbox, I went to the Monsters Inc movie screening in the TSAR. This was before the class started, but I did have a wonderful time while I was there. First, I got together with my closest friend that came to campus from my home town, Jaiden. He and I have been friends with eachother since our freshman year, so he was the easiest person to get to go with me. We held hands and ran back to my dorm, grabbed snacks and slipped into our coziest pjs, and popped on our sneakers as we sprinted down to the TSAR. He had been on campus for longer than me at this point, so he had held my hand and dragged me to guide me t the TSAR since I had zero idea where it was. We walked up to the doors and get hit by a wave of loud noise, the smell of fresh buttered popcorn, and the echoes of laughter from inside. As I walked to the man in front of the TSAR, he asked to see my event pass. I, of course, had absolutely no idea what this goofy guy was talking about. He guides me into the Corq app, sets me up an account, and helps get my event pass. He then scans my event pass QR code on my phone, laughs, and prompts me to walk in. Jaiden and I walked in and take a quick glance around. We see a large round table with my roommate and her brother at it, so we go and sit down with them. Me and my roommate chat and joke about how funny it is to see her there after seeing her a half hour before when I was getting my pjs on! We giggle, then she gets a phone call and walks away for a minute. I lift my head and look around. Surrounding me are people in pajama pants, hoodies, and onesies galore. In front of me is a big, white projecting screen for the movie to be screened on. To my left, we had the popcorn machine being tended to by another student life employee. She was swiftly scooping popcorn into Monsters Inc themed paper bags, and lining them up neatly on the table next to her. Next to the popcorn laid one of the things that people were surrounding, a bucket of beads. String was scattered across the table, scissors were snipping elastic cord, and the sounds of the beads jostling around could be heard from across the room. Friendship Bracelets! Jaiden and I dash over and grab small plastic cups full of beads, sifting through the beads to find ones we wanted to use. I grabbed mostly greens and yellows, he darted after blacks and reds. We cut ourselves some cord, waltz back over to the table, and start stringing beads up as the movie starts. The lights dim, the chattering of people dies down, and the intro begins. The movie plays on and finishes, and by that time I am done with three bracelets. One that says “i love you” in letter beads surrounded by red beads, one that says “Leon” surrounded by green and brown beads, and one I had made for my dads upcoming birthday for him. I realized that I hadn’t been paying attention to the movie the entire time right about at the end. I laugh it off, finish my little bag of popcorn, slide my bracelets on my wrist and the one I had made Jaiden onto his. The movie was awesome and I had an absolute blast. The entire environment and the even theme of Monsters Inc throughout the entire room was absolutely delightful. I could tell how hard the student life had worked on this, and I appreciate all the work that they did to make this movie just as fun as it was!
