The thing is, we are not always in the mood to watch these two play with our hearts. What we've done, then, is translate their erratic relationship into a series of dishes and drinks that you can enjoy any time. Best of all, you can even match the recipes to your mood or love life status! Who says you cannot play with food? While we do not recommend throwing food at your significant other, here are a couple of things you can do: Indulge in a dessert by yourself after a fight Load up on a smoothie the day after you split Prepare a romantic dinner for your anniversary Cook your partner's favorite food just because What are you going to do with our recipes? You might as well start thinking about it because we've got 29 dishes and drinks for you to try from! Even if you would never actually date a real-life Hardin because of how toxic! You can enjoy this guilty pleasure from a healthy distance by enjoying these foods instead of getting caught in their drama. 1. Kombucha-Kiwi Smoothie Tessa and Hardin’s relationship is so toxic you can expect them to break up at least once a week…And while we may not be the ones arguing over excessive jealousy and possessively, watching them on-screen is pretty stressful anyway. To help you get over the whole thing, have a smoothie! Prep time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 5 minutes Servings: 1 Ingredients: 1 cup sugar-free lemon kombucha ½ cup fat-free unsweetened plain yogurt 2 tbsp fresh cilantro 2 kiwis, peeled ½ small cucumber Directions: Blend all of the ingredients together until you get a smooth mixture. Serve and enjoy! 2. Passion Fruit-Yogurt Smoothie If you’re not much of a kombucha person, then try this smoothie! It’s packed with Greek yogurt's vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats. In other words, it’s everything you need to watch the entire series without a nutritional deficiency from all the stress they’ll put you through. Prep time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 5 minutes Servings: 1 Ingredients: 1 medium mango, peeled and chopped Pulp from 3 passion fruits ⅔ cup low-fat unsweetened plain Greek yogurt ¼ cup water Directions: Blend all of the ingredients together until you get a smooth mixture. Serve and enjoy! 3. Basil-Strawberry Juice While we love that Hardin found a place for him and Tessa to live in for FREE, can we please remember that these two aren’t even through college yet, and those Starbucks bills are starting to pile up quickly…Homemade drinks are the best option for college students on a budget. Prep time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 5 minutes Servings: 1 Ingredients: 1 cup coconut water ¼ cucumber, chopped 2 tsp raw honey 1 cup strawberries 1 basil leaf Directions: Blend all of the ingredients together until you get a smooth mixture. You can strain the mixture if you’d like. Serve and enjoy! 4. Frosty Peach Margaritas This recipe is perfect for a night when you decide to get together with friends and decide that hitting on a girl and “getting” her is an easy bet. The joke’s on you when you fall in love with her, and she finds out part of your relationship was a lie. Prep time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 10 minutes Servings: 3 Ingredients: 1 ½ cups ice 2 ½ cups peaches, frozen ½ cup tequila ⅓ cup fresh lime juice ¼ cup triple sec 1 tbsp raw honey Directions: Blend all of the ingredients until you get a smooth mixture. If it’s too thin, add more ice or freeze the mixture slightly. If it’s too thick, add 1 tbsp of water at a time. Serve and enjoy! 5. Avocado Toast with Pesto Even lovers of classic literature are bound to love this sophisticated twist on avocado toast: pesto! Just imagine biting into it as Hardin reads you an excerpt from “Wuthering Heights” ...That’s true love. Prep time: 6 minutes Cooking time: 6 minutes Servings: 2 Ingredients for the pesto: ⅓ cup fresh basil leaves ¼ cup unsalted walnuts ⅛ tsp garlic powder 1 tbsp olive oil 1 tbsp hot water Ingredients for the toast: 4 slices whole-grain bread 1 large avocado, pitted and mashed 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil Black pepper, to taste Directions: Blend all of the pesto ingredients together until you get a smooth mixture/paste. Set it aside. Toast your bread. Divide the mashed avocado between the slices of bread and use a knife to spread it out. Add about 2-3 tbsp of the pesto you prepared earlier to each slice and spread it over the avocado. Drizzle your toast with the remaining olive oil, serve with black pepper, and enjoy. 6. Raspberry Overnight Chia Unless Tessa and Hardin have a fairy godmother that prepares breakfast for them in between classes and all their arguments, these two won’t be getting up extra early to cook a healthy breakfast. Our solution? Overnight chia. Prep time: 10 minutes Cooking time: 30 minutes Servings: 4 Ingredients for the crisp: ¼ cup ground flaxseeds ¼ cup flaxseeds 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1 egg white 1 tbsp honey 2 tsp water Ingredients for the chia pudding: 1 ½ cups unsweetened almond milk ½ cup chia seeds 1 cup raspberries Directions: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Prepare the crisp by mixing all of its ingredients in a bowl. Let it sit in the bowl for 5 minutes. Then, spread the mixture out on the lined baking sheet. Bake the mixture for 15 minutes or until slightly crispy. Then, remove it from the oven and set it aside to cool. To prepare your overnight chia pudding, separate the chia and almond milk into 4 small containers, jars, or cups. Stir gently and place them in the fridge overnight. The following morning, garnish your chia pudding with ¼ cup of raspberries and about 3 tbsp of crisp each. Enjoy. 7. Dragon Fruit Smoothie Bowl Smoothie bowls are another easy breakfast option perfect for college students who spend more time in the bedroom or running off after a fight. These breakfast bowls are packed with everything they need to get through another breakup. They’re also perfect because you can use frozen fruit! Prep time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 5 minutes Servings: 1 Ingredients: ½ cup dragon fruit, chopped 1 cup unsweetened almond milk ½ banana, frozen 1 scoop plant-based vanilla protein powder 1 cup raspberries, frozen 1 ½ tsp maca powder ½ cup ice 3 tbsp blueberries 1 tbsp unsalted almonds, chopped Directions: Except for the blueberries and almonds, blend all of the ingredients until you get a smooth mixture. Pour it into a serving bowl and garnish it with blueberries and almonds. Enjoy! 8. Almond-Flour Chicken Tenders This relationship is so complicated that we might as well pretend their diets are equally so! In this parallel universe, neither of them can eat refined flours or have deep-fried foods because they’re at risk for stroke because of all their fighting. Thus, these almond-flour chicken tenders are their new KFC. Prep time: 19 minutes Cooking time: 40 minutes Servings: 2.5 Ingredients: ½ egg white ⅛ cup whole-wheat flour 4 tbsp almond flour ¼ cup panko breadcrumbs ½ tbsp water ¼ tsp garlic powder ½ tsp paprika ⅛ tsp cayenne pepper ½ lb. boneless chicken breast, cut into tenders 1 tsp vegetable oil Directions: Preheat your oven (450°F) and line aluminum foil on the baking tray. Lightly brush the lined baking tray with the vegetable oil. In a small bowl, add the egg white and water. Whisk to combine. In a separate bowl, add the whole-wheat flour. Mix the garlic powder, paprika, cayenne, almond flour, and panko in a third bowl. Stir to combine. Dredge all of your chicken tenders in the whole-wheat flour. Pass them through the egg-white mixture and coat them with the spiced-panko mixture. Arrange the chicken tenders on the greased baking tray. Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oven, serve, and enjoy! 9. Chicken-Asparagus Penne Pasta This pasta is not necessarily Michelin-grade fancy, but the asparagus definitely makes it special. Oh, and it just so happens that these two lovebirds happen to be in a good place. Before they start fighting again, why not celebrate their love with some pasta? Prep time: 10 minutes Cooking time: 15 minutes Servings: 1 Ingredients: 2 ¼ cups penne pasta, cooked ½ cup asparagus, steamed and chopped 1 medium tomato, diced ½ tbsp low-fat goat cheese, crumbled ½ tbsp low-fat parmesan, shredded 1 garlic clove, finely chopped 1 tsp dried basil 3 oz boneless chicken breasts, skinless and cut into 1” cubes 1 tsp olive oil Directions: Add the olive oil into a medium-sized pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and chicken. Cook the chicken for 7-10 minutes, or until it is golden brown. Add the diced tomato and dried basil. Stir to combine and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Transfer the pan’s contents into a large bowl. Add the cooked penne, steamed asparagus, goat cheese, and parmesan. Stir gently to combine. Serve and enjoy! 10. Cold Greek Chicken Salad Sometimes you have a long day and can’t wait to get home to Hardin. Then, you start fighting, and all your dinner dreams start to dissipate. This is why we love this salad because it’s forgiving and will allow even the most toxic partner to have dinner. The only catch, it’s cold. Very cold. Like your heart. Prep time: 15 minutes Cooking time: 1 hour Servings: 10 Ingredients: 1 ½ cups celery, chopped 4 tbsp low-fat milk 1 ¼ lb. grilled boneless chicken breasts ¼ cup green onions, finely chopped 4 cups red grapes, halved 2 cups low-fat unsweetened plain Greek yogurt 1 cup unsalted almonds, chopped 2 tbsp fresh dill, chopped 2-3 tsp raw honey Directions: Mix the milk, Greek yogurt, and raw honey in a small bowl. Set it aside. Except for the dill, combine the rest of the ingredients in a large salad bowl. Pour the yogurt dressing over the salad and toss gently to combine. Refrigerate the salad for one hour. Sprinkle with dill. Serve and enjoy! 11. Slow Cooker: Veggie Soup Until these two decide to set their differences aside and spend as much time in the kitchen as they do fighting, they’re going to have to survive off of this slow cooker veggie soup. It’s got everything they need to keep pushing and pulling, so make sure to serve yourself a huge bowl! Prep time: 20 minutes Cooking time: 4 hours Servings: 4 Ingredients: 1 small onion, diced 1 celery stalk, chopped 2 cups kale, stemmed and chopped 2 tomatoes, seeded and diced 1 small carrot, chopped 6 oz fresh green beans, chopped 1 small zucchini, chopped 2 cups homemade chicken broth 1 tsp red wine vinegar 1 garlic clove, finely chopped 7 oz cannellini beans, cooked and drained Directions: Add all of the ingredients into the slow cooker. Give everything a gentle stir. Close the slow cooker. Cook on HIGH for 4 hours. Serve and enjoy. 12. Cauliflower and Broccoli Soup If your boo is very sick and you want to feel as sweet and loving as Tessa when she’s not furious at Hardin, this soup is an excellent way to start. Just make sure to step out of the room the moment you start to feel the tension because a hot bowl of soup to the face is not something you want to see! Prep time: 15 minutes Cooking time: 30 minutes Servings: 4 Ingredients: ¼ cup low-fat milk 2 cups broccoli florets 2 cups cauliflower florets 1 ½ cups homemade chicken broth ¼ cup shallots, chopped 2 cups baby spinach 1 tbsp fresh parsley ½ cup low-fat cheddar, shredded Directions: Boil the broccoli and cauliflower for 5-8 minutes or until tender. Add the baby spinach into the pot and stir it around for a minute or until it wilts. Drain the water and transfer the vegetables into the blender. Pour the chicken broth and shallots into the blender and process until smooth. Once smooth, pour the blended mixture into a medium-sized pot over medium heat. Add the milk and stir for 2-3 minutes, or until the soup comes to a simmer. Remove from the heat and set aside. Add cheddar cheese. Serve with parsley and enjoy. 13. Red Lentil Soup Any young couple will dream of traveling together to different places. Tessa and Hardin just so happen to love literature that was written in many different countries. Thus, we thought to have a spoonful of this adorable wanderlust before things get complicated again. Add the garlic, onions, and carrots. Cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the carrots have softened. Add the tomato paste and spices. Stir well to combine. Pour the vegetable stock in and add the lentils. Give everything a gentle stir. Bring the soup to a boil and then let it simmer for 20 minutes, or until the lentils are cooked. Blend half of the soup until you get a smooth mixture. Return the blended mixture to the pot and stir to combine. Add the lemon zest. Stir well and cook for another 5 minutes. Serve, garnish with cilantro, and enjoy. 14. Grilled Chicken-Pineapple Salad If you’re already putting up with their toxicity, why would you think we’d make you have a boring salad? This one is anything but! Plus, it’s packed with lots of crunchy and juicy ingredients as well as a delicious vinaigrette to help you turn a blind eye the next time Hardin is being toxic AF. Add the mushrooms and onions. Cook them for 6-7 minutes, or until the onion has softened. Add the cannellini beans, garlic, basil, and grilled chicken. Stir to combine. Cook for another 2-3 minutes. Add the pasta and stir to combine. Remove from the heat and sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Serve and enjoy. 16. Baked Breaded Fish Fillets Real college students don’t have huge budgets for lots of kitchen appliances, so we’re going to steer clear of deepfryers. The dorm kitchen or the apartment, however, that probably does have an oven or a small version of one anyway. Prep time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 20 minutes Servings: 12 Ingredients: ½ tbsp olive oil 2 tbsp panko ½ tsp garlic powder ½ tsp paprika ½ lb. cod filets ½ tsp vegetable oil Directions: Preheat the oven to 450°F and lightly grease a baking dish with vegetable oil. Conclusion In these 29 recipes, we are pretty sure we’ve served you Tessa and Hardin’s relationship on a silver platter. Once you start preparing these delicious dishes, you’ll realize why they are so perfect for these two lovebirds. Somehow, we’ve managed to include all their fights, hookups, and reconciliations into these foods - that’s no easy feat! Thus, we hope they help you digest everything that’s going on much easier. Although we know (and hope) that the relationship isn’t going anywhere - because how toxic would that be? - we agree that there is something about them that we cannot get enough of. In fact, we’d even dare say we’re as obsessed with this dysfunctional relationship as much as they are with one another…However, just promise us this: if you ever meet a real-life Tessa or Hardin, run in the opposite direction. Sure, they both have amazing personality traits, but they’re a recipe for disaster. Walk away. In fact, walk away and into the kitchen. Even if you’re not sure how you feel about someone yet, let’s start cooking so we can sit down and watch After in a couple of hours. We’re sure that by the time we finish watching all the movies, you’ll either be extremely motivated to go after your boo or decide to call it quits for the last time.
