Workshop Technology Assignment
Q1. Briefly explain the four (4) stages of development in technology.
i.
ii.
iii.
iv.
The Stone Age- The stone age was a broad prehistoric period during which stone was widely
used to make stone tools with an edge, a point or a percussion surface. The period lasted for
roughly 3.4 million years, and ended between 4,000 BC and 2,000 BC, with the advent of
metalworking.
The Bronze Age- The bronze age is a prehistoric period , lasting approximately from 3500 BC
to 1200 BC, characterized by the use of bronze, the presence of writing in some areas, and
other early features of urban civilization. Bronze is harder and more durable than the other
metals available at the time, allowing the Bronze Age civilizations to gain a technological
advantage.
The Iron Age- The iron age was a period in human history that started between 1200 B.C.
and 600 B.C. , depending on the region and, followed the stone age and bronze age. During
the iron age, people across much of Europe, Asia, and parts of Africa began making tools and
weapons from iron and steel.
The Machine Age- the machine age is an era that includes the early-to-mid 20th century,
sometimes also including the late 19th century. An approximate dating would be about 1880
to 1945. Considered to be at its peak in the first and second world wars, new machinery was
created and production increased that time.
