I have been a successful Cambridge speaking examiner of all the Main Suite levels for eleven years. I am interested in additional language acquisition, applied linguistics, phonetics and phonology. Content This workshop comprends two main subjects: getting participants to be familiar with the Engage-Study-Activate framework proposed by Jeremy Harmer through reading, discussion and evaluation of class plans; and reflecting on the implications of online teaching through the Zoom platform and how to adapt well-known practices to one-to-one or small group lessons. As participants engage in the discussions, they will also have an opportunity to envision how they may envolve their future pupils. Important questions to be answered • • • • • How can the teacher fulfill their role as a facilitator to enable students to develop fluency in using the English language through online lessons? How can we help the learners get ready for so-called real world communication outside the classroom when we have limited interaction through a software? How can we get to know technological tools better in order to minimize breakdowns during classes? What are the real limits of synchronous online teaching? How do we monitor activities and have pair or group work during online classes? Equipment Laptop, online connection and Zoom platform login, as well as ppt slides and prior reading of How to teach English 2nd edition Chapter 4.
