IN KRUS NA LIGAS HIGH SCHOOL (KNLHS)
This study aims to understand the interference of gadgets among grade ten students in
Krus Na Ligas High School. This research is a type of qualitative research using survey
methodology. Data collection techniques are qualitative surveys and focus group discussions.
We came to the conclusion that gadgets greatly affect the students academic performance in a
way that is not helpful and good such as failing to keep their attention in classes during
discussion resulting in poor performance, retention, and lack of interest in learning, and
overdependence or too much reliance on gadgets makes students lose their interest in learning
or studies which results in cheating. From this study, we also give recommendations and
thoughts on how they will deal with the effects of gadgets in order to improve their academic
performance and prevent much worse case scenario in the interference of gadgets in their
academic performance in school.
INTRODUCTION
This portion serves as an introductory part. It contains the Background of the Study,
Statement of the Problem, Scope and Delimitation, Significance of the Study, and Definition of
Terms.
Background of the Study
The way people used to live before technology evolved has been profoundly affected
and modified in today's generation. Technology is the practical application of scientific
knowledge, particularly in the industrial sector. The vast majority of people have been drastically
changed by the advances in technology and mobile devices in today's society. In today’s
civilization, transportation, health care, agriculture, industry, communication, and education
have greatly improved and benefited from new technological advancements. Additionally,
technology has made it possible for people from all walks of life to access different resources,
which helps many people to have stress free life. It also promotes productivity because there
are new useful high-tech innovations created to help people do things swiftly and easily while
remaining confident of the accuracy and reliability of it. Some of these helpful technologies are
cell phones, smartphones, tablets, iPads, laptops, computers, and the Internet.
However, every grain of goodness inevitably contains a part of negativity. Being too
dependent on technology has been one of the negative impacts of technology. Many people find
it hard to live without technology because they have become too dependent on it. Let's say
these things made our lives easier, but as time passed, they also made us inert. In certain
situations, like in offices or schools, smartphones are one of the major causes of people's
distractions from the task at hand. When a person's phone vibrates for notification, they lose
focus, which leads to neglecting the activity in front of them. In addition, the use of technology in
schools has increased in the past year due to the belief that it will enhance the educational
knowledge of students. But this belief also had a negative effect. One such negative effect is
that instead of students engaging in discussions and socializing with classmates, they spend
more time on devices.
Statement of the Problem
The objectives of this study are to comprehend the interference of gadgets in academic
performance among grade 10 students at KNLHS.
It addressed the following sub-problems in particular:
1. Which gadgets did the student bring to school and use?
2. How often do your gadgets keep you from studying or paying attention in class?
3. How does utilizing gadgets inside the classroom fail to keep students' attention, which leads
to poor retention and a lack of interest in learning?
4. How can over dependence on gadgets cause students to lose interest in their studies, which
leads to cheating?

Gadgets
Today, the fashion-minded and young generation judge themselves according to the type
of gadgets they carry with them. People across the globe are getting addicted to the latest
gadgets, and life without a gadget is becoming impossible for us. To cater to the specific
demands of youth, the market for gadgets is flooded with several of the latest and most
technically advanced gadgets. Gadgets are a technology that is growing rapidly among people.
It is a small tool or device with a specific, useful purpose and function. Gadgets tend to be more
unusual or cleverly designed than normal technology. In today’s world, tasks are maximized
with the use of modern gadgets. It is easier to accomplish daily tasks, and people are also able
to do work with efficiency. Gadgets are widely used among students (Muthi'ah, 2021). With the
emergence of gadgets with internet connection facilities, students can take advantage of the
internet connection to access various kinds of information and references related to various
subjects. Therefore, in this digital era, students can now learn through various electronic media.
Learning resources owned by students do not only come from books; with internet access
facilities found in these media, students are able to develop and utilize gadgets to obtain and
access various kinds of information and also additional references. Shy (2010) says that no one
can deny the fact that gadgets have not only simplified the lives of people but also made them
more comfortable and luxurious. Indeed, these gadgets really made a huge impact on people’s
lives and became part of them.
Related Studies
The use of gadgets has revolutionized education and learning. In just few taps on a mobile
device, students can easily access a wealth of information on any subject. Educational gadgets
such as interactive whiteboards, tablets, and laptops, have made learning more interactive and
engaging. Students can take digital notes, collaborate on group projects, and even attend virtual
classes, making education more accessible, convenient, and efficient. The use of gadgets for
education and learning has facilitated the acquisition of knowledge and skills in an increasingly
digital world.
However, it is not always good and effective, the negative impact of gadgets on student
learning outcomes is that students become dependent on gadgets so that this is very dangerous
for the students themselves, dependence on playing gadgets makes students forget their study
time so this is very influential on student learning outcomes. Students who are dependent on
their gadgets will certainly not have a good impact on students because this is very detrimental
to health, disrupts student development, is prone to crime, and greatly affects the behavior of
the students themselves. Additionally, the negative impact on academic performance can arise
when students use technology to cheat on exams or independent work, get distracted by social
media during class, or become disengaged from the educational material.
Research Design
This study used a quantitative research design. A quantitative research design was used
to collect and gather information about the interference of gadgets in academic performance.

questionnaires for the data of our research.
From 100% of the selected students of Grade 10 levels, 88.9% believe that over dependence
on gadgets makes student lose interest in their studies which leads to cheating. While 11.1%
says No to the survey.
There are 63.6% of students who answered yes, and 36.4% of students who answered no to
the question survey.
Locale of the Study
The locale of the study was the junior high school of Krus Na Ligas High School (KNLHS).
CONCLUSION
In this chapter, it contains a summary of the study, conclusions, and recommendations.
Summary of the Study
The existence of gadgets has been a very big deal to the majority of the population,
especially the young generation, for we carry those little mechanical or electronic items
wherever we go. Many young people, who are mostly students, find gadgets helpful, purposeful,
and advantageous, for we can access almost everything with just one click. With these features,
students can take advantage of them to the point that it becomes a serious matter. The use of
gadgets by students makes them unmindful of their studies, lose interest in learning, and lack
retention skills, affecting their academic performance. In some cases, students' use of gadgets
even leads to procrastination and cheating on exams. Additionally, the negative impacts of
gadgets on students' social lives arise as cyberbullying becomes a widespread matter in
schools. Overall, it may be said that gadgets and electronic devices play an essential role in
education, but it also has its dark side, therefore, we should use them adequately and
responsibly in a way that will help us and improve our learning capabilities.
Conclusions
In this study, we conducted a survey questionnaire, and we concluded that:
Almost every one of the students in Krus Na Ligas High School (KNLHS) brings their own
gadgets to school.
Utilization of gadgets such as smartphones, tablets, iPad, and other electronic gadgets fails to
keep their attention in classes during discussion resulting in poor performance, retention, and
lack of interest in learning.
Gadgets are also one of the reasons why students procrastinate their activities and tasks which
leads to cramming.
Lastly, overdependence or too much reliance on gadgets makes students lose their interest in
learning or studies which results in cheating.
Recommendations
Remove distractions. Anything that limits the interruptions or temptations caused by technology
will help you stay focused on your studies and enter the deep concentration needed for effective
learning.
In order to prevent students from over-dependency on gadgets, we shouldn't make a habit of
using gadgets in learning. We can make a more interactive activity that will detach them from
their gadgets.
Also as a student itself, we should change our routine and be responsible for utilizing gadgets.
One of the best pieces of advice to overcome dependence on gadgets is to be deliberate, such
as planning your day without requiring you to spend too much time on your gadgets.
Lastly, define gadget use, according to Myles Munroe " When the purpose is not known, abuse
is inevitable" which is true, know what is the real purpose of gadgets in your life and study in
order for you to know how to maximize its effectiveness in learning and studies.
