CHALLENGES IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MOTHER
TONGUE-BASED MULTILINGUAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
CHALLENGE/PROBLEM
They perform low in competitions delivered in English.
One parent recalled, ‘In Math competitions, the pupils who were under
MTB MLE approach found it difficult to answer because the questions were
all written in English.’ (Parent No. 4) The teachers confirmed this and related
their experiences of translating the reviewers in English into and conducting
the review in mother tongue to facilitate understanding of the scientific terms.
Unfortunately, when they joined the competitions,
the children felt completely disoriented due to language confusion.
PROPOSED SOLUTION
I believe that with this problem, the best way is to talk with Schools
Division Superintendent who has the authority in the management of the
problem. That way, they can investigate and consider things. Because the
incident or the problem is affecting the
Children’s performance. Addressing it to them is already a big step in order
to make a change.
