Code-switching and code mixing
CODESWITCHING
Code switching is the practice
of moving back and forth
between two languages or
between two dialects or
registers of the same language
at one time. Code
switching occurs far more often
in conversation than in writing.

Code mixing
• With the language variation that people have, they are able to
mix some languages on their single utterance. When one
language is mixed with the other language, in the
sociolinguistics study it is called code-mixing.
• Example: I querer to leave now. Don’t make me stay here. I am
getting trade. (Code-mixing between English and Spanish)
