Who is the fictional character that you identify most with, and why?
One of the most prominent fictional characters that existed is the clever and intelligent woman
named Hermione Granger in J.K. Rowling’s famous novel, Harry Potter. She is particularly
popular among young female fans, who view her as a role model. In literary fiction, strong female
role models are not mainstreamed. They are usually depicted as weak, in love, heartbroken women
who seek revenge or alter their appearances to attract their suitors so that they can live happily
ever after. Gender bias in textbooks is a critical topic that is often overlooked. Both girls and boys
need to have female role models to have a balanced view of the world (Hasan, 2020). However,
J.K. Rowling's magnificent writing style offered something unique. Hermione Jane Granger
provided the women of this generation with a strong female role model. With this, she is the
fictional character I most identify with as a role model for being a strong, independent woman.
Hermione's courageous decisions and intelligence make her a role model that young women of
today can wish to emulate. When analyzing Hermione’s character as a fictional element, it can be
inferred that her life as a wizard is not easy. Firstly, since she is a muggle-born wizard, which
means that neither of her parents is a wizard, she is often discriminated against. However, she is
not easily intimidated, and she proves herself persistently, despite the fact that it obviously pains
her that muggle-born are viewed in such a negative light. This serves as motivation for her to defeat
Voldemort and those who oppose the muggle-born, such as Malfoy and Umbridge.
To conclude, Hermione Granger’s existence has had significant influences, not just as a character
in the book but as a role model for young women in today’s world. Her being intelligent and valiant
is an inspiration for women to strive hard and fight for what is right and just. Her character can
also be a reminder for people, especially in the literary world, to compose literature with strong
female lead roles where women are empowered to achieve things in life.
