Acute meningitis Organ: Brain Morphology: Acute bacterial meningitis is a rapidly developing inflammation of the layers of tissue that cover the brain and the spinal cord -meninges- and of the fluid filled space between meninges when it’s caused by bacteria. Gross features: It's an acute suppurative inflammation which differs from a normal brain because it has: pus, swollen, and it's more reddish Gross Microscopic features: It's an acute non-suppurative inflammation, due to presence of lymphocytes, macrophages and neutrophils with large amounts.
