I believe that the underlying theories or concepts within the video is about obsession to fantasizing idols and performers, as seen in the video that there is that one fan girl who finally had her fantasies come to reality by having a night together with the guy that she idolizes, however, it never seemed to become like an ordinary meet up with her idol, but an eye opener as to how obsession and over fantasizing could become worse as reality shocked her that her childish view of life and cliché romance turned into an experience where reality slammed through her innocence. I believe that she did something for the sake of her fan girl fantasies even if it could put her at risk. 2. In the concept of semiotics and critical theories related to popular culture, answer the following: What do you think is the genre of the trailer? As I have watched the movie trailer, for me the genre is more of a Young Adult Fiction. It is because the Movie trailer is about a teen ager who did everything just to fulfill her desires as fan girl of an idol. From the title itself, Fan girl, it is a representation of mere representation of never meet your so called heroes. Like in today’s generation, kids seemed to become obsessed the people they patronize which is never a good thing. It tells us that idolizing beyond limits especially if you are a minor could go either ways, in a bad or good way. What are the signs embedded in the trailer that you can relate to the popular culture in the Philippines? Patronizing idols could be one possible sign in relation to the Philippine pop culture since it is common especially in teenagers that they find it pleasing to adore actors/actresses. Being naïve, because of all the things we see in TV and media, many young people think that a person is into you because he kissed you, had an intercourse, or just because of some quote you saw on a movie/talk show or in Twitter that made you infatuate. Obsession and Blind Fanaticism idols is also one sign we can relate especially in these era where there are actors and actresses that were loved by many, to such point they are willing to risk everything just to have a collection of things signed by that idol or to be with their idol. Exposure to Bad influence or Activities, too much like scenes in which Paulo teaches Jane to drink beer and smoke cigarettes even though she’s a minor. Jane lies about being not a kid, and even proceeds to drink and smoke though she stated that she’s 16. What do you think are the director's elements added, deleted, or substituted in the film in contrast to real-life situations? Since it is a Fan culture and celebrity life type of movie, it is more of a reality-based which somehow exists. I believe the director’s elements that were added are the lights that are appropriate to the scenes that made it realistic and obtaining a particular mood. To become more realistic, the director added uncensored and unfiltered profane words in the narrative which made the scenes and the film close to reality. Also, instead of showing the shallow side of what fan girls or fan boys are like, she substituted the scenes by digging deeper to things that are severe like showing what is the true meaning of obsession and blind love.
