Once upon a time, a merchant from a faroff country arrived in Baghdad. The
merchant showed
his
goods
and
highlighted the characteristics before the
king. In those days, it was the law of trade
that a trader would first meet the king of
the country, he was going to trade with.
He used to show all his merchandise and
inform about his qualities and uniqueness,
so this trader was also presented in the
king's court after reaching Baghdad.
The merchant presented gifts to the king,
exhibited his goods, and started to express
the qualities of certain good items.
3
His Majesty! “This is a watch, which runs
with water power. It is a strange
masterpiece. I bought it in Greece. This is
a flying carpet, which travels into the air. I
bought this magic carpet from Iran. This
magic carpet is made of pure gold thread,
which never becomes dusty”.
The merchant smiled and resumed his
conversation.
Oh my lord! “Check this pen that I bought
from Hindustan. It is inkless and does not
require ink to write”.
All the people present in the court were
listening to the traders attentively. They
seemed quite surprised by the show of
4
these magic items. The king smiled and
said,
“Very well, all things are very rare that
you have bought from different countries,
but tell me that you saw something worthy
of my glory in Hindustan”.
The merchant said to inspire the king,
His Majesty! "There were so many things
of your interest, but to get what I liked, I
had to stay there for some time while I had
only two days’ time. So I couldn't bring it
for you.”
"What was that thing?" The kind asked
instantly.
5
“That was a unique pearl, which exceeds
distributing others, no one can steal it, and
lots of jewelry can be made by this pearl”.
The merchant replied.
"I must get it." The king decided. He
immediately instructed one of his special
ministers to bring that pearl and never
retune back without getting this pearl."
The king's minister reached India after
several months of difficult travel. He went
to the city which the merchant had told, the
city
would
have the
king's
desired
diamond. The minister asked the people
about the most famous jeweler in the city
and went to the jeweler's shop. He
6
introduced himself to Johri and explained
the purpose of his visit. The minister said
to Johri,
"I am searching for such a diamond, which
neither be stolen, not it will be diminished
by
distributing
among
people,
but
increases its size. Moreover, which also
has the quality to make other ornaments
from it".
Johri
listened
to
the
minister
very
attentively and said,
"I have been in the jewelry business for
forty years. I have never seen such a
diamond in my life nor have I heard from
7
anyone about it. I think that someone has
made you fool."
"Not, it's not". The minister said.
"The businessman who has told all this is a
very famous and well-known businessman.
He often comes to our country for trade.
He cannot dare to lie to the king".
"Then I can't help you", you can consult to
some other exert". Johri said to the
minister.
The Minister visited many other jewelers
to inquire about the unique diamond, but
everyone gave the same answer. Finally,
disappointed on all sides, the minister
8
decided to return to Baghdad. He made the
decision to return, but inside the minister
was very scared. He was sure that the king
would punish him severely. Maybe the
king will issue the order to behead him for
his failure.
One day the minister was passing through
the jungle. There was an old well on the
way. When the minister was passing by it,
he heard a cry coming from the same well.
Someone one was calling for help. It
seemed that this voice was of a girl.
The minister was forced to look at the
well.
9
He saw a beautiful fairy in the well that
was slaved into heavy chains. The fairy
told the minister that she was the princess
of Fairyland and the magician kidnapped
her. The princess fairy further told the
farmer,
“This magician wanted to marry me. If he
succeeds to marry me, he will become the
most powerful magician on the earth. He
wishes to be the lord of entire the world.”
The
Fairy
Princess
requested
the minister to help her. The minister took
a rope and threw it into the well. The Fairy
Princess hold the rope and was taken out
of the well.
10
As she came out of the well, she threw a
magic fire with his magic rod, and the
magician along with the well both started
to burn.
Fairy thanked the minister, and said,
“Whenever
seemed
quite
uneasy and
worried? What is wrong with you? Do you
need my help?"
The minister told his story that the pearl he
was looking for, he had not found it
anywhere. The good fairy listened to the
minister attentively. At once she started
laughing and said,
11
"I am sorry that you did not work wisely.
Certainly, the name of this unique jewel is
KNOWLEDGE. No one can steal it. The
more you distribute it among the people,
the more it increases". The fairy replied.
The minister was listening to the fairy with
great care and is eventually convinced that
the knowledge is a pearl, the world's most
valuable
piece
of
jewelry. Now
the
minister was very happy as he had
succeeded to find out the unique diamond,
the kind ordered to find.
On arriving before the king, he told about
the pearl of knowledge and explained. The
king
was
convinced
12
that
the
only
knowledge is such a pearl, which no one
can steal. Knowledge is a pearl whose
shine is from the earth to the throne, and in
the light of this pearl, man gains access to
the creation of this universe.
