Bunsen Burner Experiment
Method
Part 1: Lighting the Burner
•
Step 1 – place the heat proof mat underneath the bunsen burner
•
Step 2 – close the air hole of the bunsen burner
•
Step 3 – light your match and hold it away from bunsen burner
•
Step 4 – turn gas on with your free hand
•
Step 5 – light burner
•
Step 6 – open air hole so flame changes to blue flame
Part 2: The Experiment
1. Set up the bunsen burner as shown in the picture
2. Put 100mL of water into the beaker and 3 drops of food colouring
3. Record the starting temperature of the water
4. Heat the water for 15 minutes recording the temperature every 1 minute
