1. Problem: Under the approximate design method, determine the adequacy of
the simply supported beam at transfer and at working if the prestressing force
is applied 200 mm from the bottom of the beam. The 15 m long beam carries a
live load of 14.60 KN/m. Unit weight of concrete is 23.60 KN/cu m. Use Fc =
19.3 MPa
.
If Fs = 1035 MPa, determine also the area of prestressing tendons. Web thickness is
150 mm.

2. Using the approximate design method and the given live load and allowable
stresses in #1., design a post tensioned rectangular beam of the same length
and the amount of prestressing steel required. The beam width shall be limited
to 300 mm.
