Patients seek medical care in order to protect them from untowards complications and life
threatening or life damaging situations. Here the nurses are the professionals who are with the
patients round the clock and hold the responsibility to be an advocate to convey their needs to
the provider .This can help to provide appropriate and timely care and hence prevent
complications .
In this scenario the nurse could have called the physician when there was no late deceleration
and absence of variability ,alternated heart rate. These are some of the signs of fetal distress
which could have been insisted to the provider through direct phone call and hence avoided this
situation . By doing so the baby could have been born at the right time and prevented from the
complications of cerebral palsy
Documentation is crucial in this situation, but the nurse neglected to do so. The chain of medical
care can be changed if there is improper paperwork. At the same time, it serves as a legal
record that can be used to one's advantage when facing legal challenges and while on job.
