Activity 5.1
On Rizal’s Retraction: A Student’s Point of View
Directions: Watch the Xiao Talks: The retraction of Jose Rizal in Youtube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXJ2R4S87CM . After the discussion of the Rizal’s retraction
controversy in the video, I hope that the topic is more vivid and clear.
1. Compare and contrast the debate on Rizal’s retraction letter and that of the
Xiao analysis.
2. Identify what values or lessons are evident in the text and Xiao.
3. Make a persuasive essay about the controversy of Rizal’s retraction letter. Did he retract or
not? Would Rizal’s works be deemed irrelevant and futile because of his retraction?
4. Justify the importance of Jose Rizal’s heroism to the lives of the Filipino people. How can
you say that sacrificing his life brought change to the mindset of the members of this nation?
Reminders:
All the work you submit should be clear, concise, and written in your own words. The word plagiarism
comes from the Latin plagiarius, Plagiarius means kidnapper. Please do not kidnap someone else’s
words. Kidnappers are PUNISHED.
