COW’S MILK PROTEIN ALLERGY -INVESTIGATIONS- Aspurce Ertuzun Group 29 WHAT IS COW’S MILK PROTEIN ALLERGY AND WHAT CAUSES IT? • Cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA) is the most common food allergy in babies. • There are two main proteins in cow's milk that can cause an allergic reaction: Casein, found in the solid part (curd) of milk that curdles. Whey, found in the liquid part of milk that remains after milk curdles • CMPA occurs when the body’s immune system abnormally reacts to a protein in the milk of cows and some other animals. • It usually occurs in babies younger than 1 year of age. fl WHICH QUESTIONS SHOULD BE ASKED? • Has the child experienced digestive or gastrointestinal symptoms? Such as re ux, diarrhoea or constipation. • Has the child experienced any skin symptoms such as hives, eczema or rash? • Has the child experienced any respiratory symptoms?
