In the beginning, he is really competitive about but at the end, he
realizes what happening is actually and wants to leave the island
1: “The sea liked greedy lips in the shadows.”
2: “A sharp hunger was picking at him.”
I think it means that if life was perfect it would be boring. Nothing
exciting would happen.
He is saying that human intelligence is more reliable than animal
instincts.
His large bow
“General,” said Rainsford, “I wish to leave this island at once.” He
saw the black eyes of the general on him, studying him.
The consistency is similar to the consistency of blood
One of the meanings is like a competition and the other is like taking
a risk.

General Zaroff
“Nothing escaped those searching eyes, no crushed blade of
grass, no bent twig, no mark, no matter how faint, in the
moss.”
Zaroff has good eyesight and can tell
the difference between almost
anything.
General Zaroff is a big hunter. He likes to make it his own
game and he likes to hunt people and kill them for his own
entertainment.
Zaroff is cruel and evil. He only cares about
himself.
“Did not make me condone cold-blooded murder.”
“Life is for the strong, to be lived by
the strong, and if needs be taken,
taken by the strong. The weak of the
world were put here to give the strong
pleasure. I am strong. Why should I
not use my gift?”
Zaroff thinks very highly of himself. He
thinks that he is better than everyone
else and can do whatever he wants.
Zaroff is a murderer and scary.
