Objective: Compose clear and coherent sentences using appropriate
grammatical structures: Pluralization of irregular nouns

Topic: Pluralization of Irregular Nouns
Irregular nouns are nouns that do not become plural by adding –s or –
es, as most noun in English language do.
For example, the plural form of man is men not mans. The plural form of
woman is women, not womans.
The most common irregular nouns:
1. Nouns ending in –f and –fe
Ex. Leaf-leaves
Life –lives
2. Nouns that change vowels
Ex. Foot– feet
Man– men
3. Irregular nouns that change substantially
Ex. Mouse– mice
Child– children
4. Irregular nouns that do not change at all when made plural
Ex. Sheep– sheep
Fish– fish
5. Plurals of Latin and Greek words
Ex. Cactus-cacti
Axis– axes
Criterion– criteria

f. When a compound noun is written without a hyphen, the plural is
formed at the end of the word.

g. When a compound noun is hyphenated, the first word is pluralized.

h. Foreign words form their plural by changing their last letter.
