III. What’s In?
Let’s review!
In the previous lesson, we were able to discuss the good practices on how to
obtain a good healthy lifestyle.
Nowadays, we need to keep ourselves healthy always since that we’re on the
health crisis. The spread of Novel Corona Virus, which is the latest pandemic is

need
to
do?

IV.
What’s New?
SANITATION is the hygienic process of promoting health by keeping the
environment free from dirt, infection and diseases.
Poor Environmental Sanitation causes different illnesses and even premature
deaths especially among the people living in slum and congested areas. These
health problems include:
a. Respiratory Diseases
b. Skin Diseases
c. Gastrointestinal Diseases
d. Neurological Diseases
Pupils are sharing ideas
about Disease and disorders
due to Poor Environmental
Sanitation
Poor environment contributes to
many common health problems
in our country. They are:
RESPIRATORY DISEASES- any of the
diseases and disorders of the airways
and the lungs that affect human
respiration. Acute respiratory infections
such as pneumonia and bronchitis are
some of the major causes of death.
1
5
Respiratory
Diseases mostly
from polluted air
Skin Diseases – Most of the skin infections can be
prevented by practicing proper hygiene. It is usually
developed in those who have poor sanitation because
dirty skin becomes an ideal breeding place for
different microorganisms.
.
hadhad
mamaso
These includes bacterial
infectionssuch as BOILS or
“PIGSA”, IMPETIGO or
“MAMASO”, Fungalinfections
like JOCK’S ITCH or “HADHAD”.
And Parasitic infectionslike
SCABIES or “GALIS ASO”
3
.
.
GASTROINTESTINAL DISEASES – Unsafe water,
inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene will eventually
lead to majority of intestinal infections like Diarrhea,
typhoid fever, hepatitis A, and worm infestation.
You must practice hand
washing before and after using
the toilets, when preparing
food, ad prior to eating your
meals. Your hand are good
mediums for acquiring these
microorganisms and the best
means of spreading them. The
food you eat and the water you
drink may be contaminated
because of improper
sanitation.
6
2
NEUROLOGICAL IMPAIRMENT- common heavy metals that
are highly toxic to your developing brain and nervous system are
LEAD AND MERCURY . The longer your exposure, the greater
the likelihood of damage. Poisoning from these metals can lead
to learning disabilities, behavioral problems, mental retardation
or worse coma and death. LEAD can be from toys, clothes or
plastic bottles. Water can be contaminated by disposed
batteries. While MERCUTY can be from burned coal, or
disposed fluorescent lights or from nearby industries which
contaminates the water.
4
Spoiled baterries from toys, that put
danger to children when swollowed
Mercury is the liquid found thermomiter
We all need a healthy environment to live in. Inadequate sanitation
practices have negative impact in your environment and on your
well-being. These poor sanitation practices may cause problems like
respiratory illnesses, skin diseases, gastrointestinal problems and
neurological impairments. All of these are preventable.

IV. B What’s New?
We live in an ecosystemwherein one person’s action has the potential to affect others and
environment. This actions are better known as pollutants.
The air we breath and the water we drink is essential for our health and well-being.
However, we, the people who need them most, are the ones who are polluting them causing
hazards in our own health and even our own death. Respiratory diseases and gastrointestinal
diseases are the primary preventable diseases that are brought about by these types of
pollutions.
8
Pollution prevention is a major global concern
because of its harmful effects on every person’s
health and on the environment . It is your
responsibility to take care of your place to make it
ideal for people to live in. if you heal the world you
are also healing yourselves. There are small
changes that you can do that can make a
difference , both in short and long terms.
Here are things that you can do to keep water and
air safe and clean.

not biodegradable , Thus they can stay up to 25 years,
chemicals from cigarettes polluted the water and their
smoke damage the air we breathe.
2. Keep your automobiles in good condition to avoid
emission resulting to smoke belching vehicle.
3. Do not throw your trash anywhere nor burn it .
Minimize your chemical use.
4. Practice the famous 3R’s of waste
management: Reduce, Reuse and recycle
9
5. Save energy to reduce carbon
emission. Use wind or solar power
which is free and abundant. Learn
to conserve water.
6. Plant more trees that will provide
more oxygen
7. Do not litter dispose your pet’s
waste properly
8. Help identify and report polluters.
9. Join in clean -up effort group
