PERSONALISED LEARING TPL MODEL INTRODUCE A LEARNING FOCUS/INQUIRY. School: Choose a research question about water quality (pick a parameter) ie. pH, nitrates, salinity, temperature, phosphates, possibly others BRAINSTORM TECHNOLOGIES Look at all the probes (they connected to some sort of brick tablet thing). Get a prac to test them and use them. Learn how to create a graph on them CATER TO DIVERISTY Students had choice - some had a sheet with extra information, some had more direction from teacher Students could choose what to research Some probes were easier to use FOCUS GROUPS Students (randomly grouped, can't remember) each had a different probe, got back together after testing them out on water samples. Get to choose as a group a particular water sample. Teacher works with them. CELEBRATE THE LEARNING Probes connected to a computer to take Excel data. Could make a web page with it as a group report. STUDENT PRESENTATIONS No one wanted to get up and present (too scared) - I remember everyone coming around to each group in a circle and asking questions to each group instead. IS IT SELF-DIRECTED? Students choose what to research (ie nitrates, ph) and also what type of water samples to explore (ie local wetland, swimming pool, fish tank). Then they were all sent to do their own research and come back together. STUDENT STRENGTHS Some students lead the groups, some liked to research, some were better with technology to make the webpage. It was one of those generated ones with lots of ads. R Norman - made using Canva
