With a partner = I don’t have a partner. Think of a concrete and experiential example where an art has served the following purposes: 1. Create Beauty = In my own experience, it was when I competed in my Junior High School for Nail Art where I won 3rd place in District in Misamis Oriental. For the nail art competition we are given a theme of 4 seasons (spring, summer, fall, and winter) and so what I did was to design the animals present in that season, for example penguin for winter and butterflies for spring. So it creates beauty on nails and draws attention to on lookers which add confidence to the person wearing it. Art, therefore, is a creation presented by its creator with the intention that it can be described in some meaningful sense of imagination and expressing it through his or her ability to transform it into reality using his or her creative prowess to create something unique in the eyes of other people. 2. Provide Decorations = I stumble upon a painting of Edgar Degas’ Dancers in the Green Room. I know why I like it; I like it for its content. It is a painting of girls stretching, a ballet practice in the background. We might expect a painter to paint a ballet, but Degas has captured a moment before the ballerinas are even practicing. It is so human, so real; it is the world as it appears to all of us, without the glossy finish of good-timing. It is what I would call the form of the painting that I am not fond of. It is dark and drab, and though it has probably faded with time, it is just not that attractive to me. To me, its significance lies entirely in its content. That is also a reason why I printed and frame it in my room. To kind of remind me to persevere on my goals in life. 3. Reveal truth = I do believe that art is a human spirit that reveals the truth in an intuitive way. We can say that a creation is being presented for artistic purposes to some extent exactly when its creator presents it. The creator is the arbiter of the creation, and this is, perhaps, the most intuitive part of the definition. In philosophy we deal with powers that seem to be far beyond us, but art is ours. And we have every right to identify which objects count as art. Also our ancestors, because of them we can see glimpses of their history like the cave painting and Egyptian art where much of the surviving art comes from tombs and monuments, which have the emphasis on life after death and the preservation of knowledge of the past. 4. Express values = I think of the time when our teacher in Senior high school required as to showcase our talents and what I did was to paint using an oil pastel as my medium. In my painting, I used mother earth as my subject. Reminding people how cruel we are to nature. That all ill happenings in our time in this planet is a reflection of how people became greed, very abusive and do not care about our environment. The painting expresses values that we need to take good care of our planet because it is the only planet where people can live and thrive. 5. Commemorate experience = I have been a fan of the movie Maleficent ever since it came out in cinema’s and I was given a chance to commemorate the character by portraying Maleficent in a school activity where the students are task to showcase their favorite characters in a television series, anime and movies. The creation of the costume was difficult, time consuming, and costly especially the creation of the wings. Although it was very laborious but it turned out to be an amazing work of art. It was a fun experience dressing up as Maleficent despite of the many challenges encountered to create at least a replica of Maleficent costume and the most rewarding part of the effort was winning the competition. 6. Create harmony = In our municipality Sugbongcogon, the people come together and celebrate Manok-manokan festival every year. Every barangay in the municipality participates in the manok-manokan dance festival to showcase their different interpretation, creativity and ingenuity of the people in every barangays. The colorful costumes, choreography, dance moves and the discipline exhibited by the participants should harmonize to capture and excite the audience and leave a vivid memory of in their minds. The said celebration teaches people of Sugbongcogon to come together and work together and create harmonious coexistence in the municipality.
