Centennial Honors College Western Illinois University Undergraduate Research Day 2012 Podium Presentation Imagination Mercedes Kos Faculty Mentor: Jenny Knavel Art Ever since I was a little girl I have always had an interest in art. I love to create new things, whether it is painting, sculpture or an object. I often take old discarded items, and reassemble them, to create something new and beautiful. My personal observations and emotions are often present in my work. I grew up in Chicago and was influenced by life in the city. The Street is a painting dealing with the graffiti that is present in my neighborhood. Schizophrenic is a graphic design photo that represents the different aspects or interests in my life. Art is very relaxing and important to me. It is a way for me to express how I’m feeling without using words. I find joy in creating something no one has ever seen before. It’s something that I want to do for the rest of my life.
