Riphah College of Engineering & Technology DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY Complex Engineering Problem 4th Semester: Spring-2022 EE-214: Electrical Machines I Issue Date: May 08, 2022 Student Name: B.Sc. Electrical Engineering Maximum Marks: 40 Due Date: Jun 07, 2022 Roll No: Q1 C2 CLO1 PLO1 Part A) Explain whether transformer is a machine or not. Give mathematical and logical reasons in support of your arguments? Also construct a simplified power system from generation to load by properly enlisting different voltage levels in primary transmission, secondary transmission, primary distribution & secondary distribution as implemented in Pakistan. 10 C3 CLO3 PLO2 Part B) A 13.8-kV, single-phase generator supplies power to a load through a transmission line. The load's impedance is ZLoad = 500 with angle 36.87° ohms, and the transmission line's impedance is Zline = 60 with angle 600 ohms as shown in the following figure. 15 1. Calculate Voltage regulation of above power system? 2. Solve the circuit for line losses of the mentioned power system? If the same power system is replaced by a step up transformer T1 of ratio 1:20 and step down transformer T2 of ratio 20:1 as shown below: 3. Calculate Voltage regulation of above power system? 4. Solve the circuit for line losses of the mentioned power system? C4 CLO4 PLO3 Part C) Investigate both power system that is with and without transformer including their efficiency, line losses, voltage regulations, make a table of them and finally conclude their results.
