 Nursing management: first stage of labor
o Phone assessment
 EDD, fetal movement over the last few days, premonitory signs of labor,
parity, gravida, previous child experiences, duration of previous labors,
contraction characteristics, vaginal bloody show, membrane status,
support system present with patient
o Upon admission
 True vs false labor, assess FHR, assess cervical dilation/effacement,
ruptured or intact membranes
o Admission hx, checking labs, biophysical profile review, asking about child
preparation, physical assessment
 Idenfiying EDD, prenatal hx, fundal height, Leopold maneuvers, FHR, SVE,
educating re: monitoring, fetal response to contractions, repositioning,
amniotic assessment, TACO, comfort measures, knowing what
interventions mom wants during birth, caring for the support system
o Accurate and timely documentation
