Artificial Intelligence in modern games Presented byY. Rishi Kiran 2101150001 M.Tech(AI&DS),K L U Introduction Today we will discuss about the application of the AI in the modern games. Games are a fundamental way that humans interact and learn. They provide so many benefits for people of all interests and abilities. Children especially love playing games and these activities provide such a great opportunity for them to practice so many skills. Playing games is important for adults too! Games for adults are a fun way for the adult to fuel their “imagination, creativity, problem-solving abilities, and emotional well-being.” Business of Gaming Industry (2012-2021). The games market will continue to grow in the following years, exceeding $200 billion at the end of 2023. By then, we forecast the games market to grow with a +7.2% CAGR between 2019 and 2023 to $204.6 billion. What is AI in video games? AI in gaming refers to responsive and adaptive video game experiences. These AIpowered interactive experiences are usually generated via non-player characters, or NPCs, that act intelligently or creatively, as if controlled by a human game-player. AI is the engine that determines an NPC’s behavior in the game world. AI games increasingly shift the control of the game experience toward the player, whose behavior helps produce the game experience. AI procedural generation, also known as procedural storytelling, in game design refers to game data being produced algorithmically rather than every element being built specifically by a developer. While AI in some form has long appeared in video games, it is considered a booming new frontier in how games are both developed and played. How is AI important in gaming? As the basis of game development , game graphics technology is updated every year. The quality of a game depends largely on graphics technology However, with the increasing perfection of graphics technology, People are no longer satisfied with the beautiful and gorgeous audio-visual experience, but instead pursue deeper game connotation. Modern computer games achieve the reality of the game by integrating graphics, physics and artificial intelligence (AI). When game developers apply AI to computer or game console games, they will make the majority of players feel that the enemy controlled by computer AI system (NPC) they face has human intelligence just like the real enemy, so that the players can leave a realistic experience. AI in gaming is all about enhancing a player’s experience. It is especially important as developers deliver gaming experiences to different devices. No longer is gaming simply a choice between console or desktop computer. Rather, players expect immersive game experiences on a vast array of mobile and wearable devices, from smartphones to VR headsets, and more. AI enables developers to deliver console-like experiences across device types. Under normal circumstances, the computing capacity and storage capacity of the general computer CPU are very limited. Using artificial intelligence technology to program and calculate the characters in the game, the interaction between the whole game and the players is enhanced, and the sense of reality is also increased. Limitations of AI in gaming The artificial intelligence technology in the game should not be too smart, at least not more than half of the player's level, otherwise the player will lose interest in the game. When artificial intelligence technology is applied in games, on the one hand, it should limit its effectiveness and prevent players from being bruised, on the other hand, it should also increase the development and application of intelligent technology in games. When designing games, game designers need to balance the virtual game world. On the one hand, they should attract players' interest in games, and on the other hand, they should make games challenging. When a game goes on the market, the behavior of non players will not be arranged in advance, and the longer the game is played, the game itself can adjust itself according to the game progress, so as to better adapt to the player's progress of the game. Views to overcome limitations At present, the role of advanced artificial intelligence is not to act as ingame artificial intelligence in games, but to replace real players to play games and test the games themselves. Machine learning is an essential data mining tool for in game analysis, so game studios can study players' behavior's and decipher new insights to improve games over time. It is difficult to find the existing linear formula to describe the solution model of the non-qualitative AI problems in games, but these problems can be transformed into specific patterns or nonlinear mappings. As for the self-learning function of the model, offline learning can be used in game development, so as to extract many parameters that have great influence on decision-making, and train neural network, so that the network can learn the game experts' understanding of the game to a certain extent. Conculsion After the latest artificial intelligence based on machine learning is involved in game development, the future game development mode, gameplay and game experience will eventually be innovated and changed. Like today's game graphics engine, artificial intelligence engine will become an indispensable part for large-scale game development.
