FESTIVALS OF
AKLAN, CEBU and BATANGAS
Ati-atihan:
• Festival from Kalibo Aklan means
“Make -believe Atis”
• It is celebrated in honor of Sto. Niño/ Child Jesus.
• It is held every third week of January.
• Participants join a tribal dance parade with drums,
music costumes and indigenous accessories.
• People cheer and shout “Hala Bira” to encourage
enthusiasm and continuous dancing for the whole
duration of the festival
SINULOG FESTIVAL:
• Festival from the city of Cebu that is
celebrated every third Sunday of
January to commemorate Santo Niño.
• Dancers are dressed with colorful
costumes and the dance is accompanied
with the rhythmic music of drums,
trumpets and native gongs.
• “Pit Senior” is the common yell of the
petitioners.
SUBLIAN FESTIVAL:
• A festival in Batangas that is celebrated annually
on the 23rd day of July.
• The festival is celebrated to show the great love of
Batangueños to the Holy Cross of Bauan and
Agoncillo and Sto. Nino of Batangas City.
• Subli is performed with chanting and accompanied
by drums. Subli comes from the subsub ( bending
your body forward or downward) and bali
(broken)
• Male dancers are in trunk-forward bend position.
• Lupakan (“sharing of Nilupak”) a delicacy made
from cassava, sweet potato or banana)
FESTIVALS OF
MARINDUQUE, DAVAO and BICOL
MORIONES FESTIVAL:
• A religious Festival during Holy week.
• A re-enactment of the story of Saint
Longinus
• Morions wear their costumes for the
entire week , scare children and perform
singing and dancing to court the ladies.
KADAYAWAN FESTIVAL:
• A festival celebrated in Davao every third week of August
to give thanks for good harvest.
• The celebration comes with parade floats of fresh fruits
and flowers, street dancing with colorful costumes and
accessories.
• Originated from the tribal festivals of the “Lumad” and
Muslim tribes of Mindanao.
• Formerly known as Apo Duwaling to promote Davao’s
famous icons: Mt. Apo (highest peak), Durian (king of
fruits), and Waling-waling (queen of orchids)
IBALONG FESTIVAL:
• Famous festival in Albay to express
friendliness , enthusiasm and good will
to all people.
• It is celebrated to commemorate the
three heroes of the famous Bicol Epic
namely Baltog, Handyong and Bantong
