Greek Mythology Project/Poster
A myth is a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or
explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural
beings or events.
There are myths to describe how the world was created, how lightning is created, why
our voices sometimes echo, how fire was created, where we go after we die, why we see
our reflection in water, why the four seasons exist, and why we fall in love.
1) Research a popular myth and describe it in the box below in 3-5 sentences.
The Greeks were polytheistic in their religious beliefs. Polytheistic means they
believed in and worshiped many different gods. In Greek mythology, the gods often
represented different forms of nature. Their religion/mythology had no formal
structure with the exception of various festivals held in honor of the gods. There was
no sacred book or code of conduct to live by. The most powerful Greek gods were
known as the Olympians. The Greeks believed the Olympians lived on the highest
mountain in Greece, Mount Olympus.
The Olympian gods included: Zeus, Hera, Apollo, Aphrodite, Ares, Artemis, Athena,
Demeter, Hades, Hermes, Hephaestus, Poseidon and Hestia or later she was replaced
in some lists by Dionysus. You must choose one of these gods/goddesses to
research.
2) You will be researching a Greek god or goddess (from those listed above), and
creating a “WANTED POSTER.” Your WANTED POSTER may be typed or handdrawn.
*** On your WANTED POSTER you must list the following information under the
name of your god or goddess:
On your poster you will need the following information:
•The name of the god (make it easy to see)
• The Roman name and the Latin name of your god/goddess (listed as “aliases”)
•A picture of the god/goddess (choose something appropriate for a poster)
•A brief description of where the god/goddess is from and where the
god/goddess can usually be found (in other words, where does the god spend
his/her time in the myths?)
• He or she is the god or goddess of…...?
• This god is famous for…..? •
• List relatives? (parents, siblings, what god or gods did he or she marry, love,
or desire…?)
• Does this god/goddess have a weapon, symbol, or attribute?
• What other identifying characteristics or interesting facts have you discovered
about your god/goddess?
•What special talents, skills, or traits does this deity have (if any)?
•What animals, plants, and objects are associated with him/her (if any)?
•What areas of weakness cause trouble for this deity (if any)?
•Are there any humans for whom this deity is a patron? Why?
