Aaron Thomas ST370 08/17/2021 Day 1 Proposal on a hot air balloon wind powered turbine for the town Why would switching to wind power be a good thing? Now before we get into the benefits of wind power, what are more common ways that people generate electricity. The list includes fossil fuels, nuclear power, biomass and geothermal. These types of power plants go about it differently and all have various pros and cons about them. But their basic principle is the same, they heat water via their own methods to make it steam to spin a turbine. Now wind power turbines are different in the sense that they can be a spun through with our very own atmosphere. Meaning there is no additional materials that are needed after a wind turbine is built. This is a different with other methods as they constantly require fuel to keep the steam going to spin the turbine. This is good for two reasons, one, it is cost effective. Once a wind turbine is built, it is there generating electricity to the end with little maintenance. Two, it is environmentally safe. Methods such as fossils fuels and nuclear power have dangerous byproducts, such as carbon monoxide and used nuclear rods which can be detrimental to an environment. Wind turbine, have no byproduct as it has no fuel to create such byproducts. Therefore, it is safer to the environment. Where should you put this turbine Now the tethers would be in two places: zone 7 and zone 8. I choose these two zones because a, it doesn’t say anything of about putting two tethers in one zone. b, this is what I think would best balance the social and financial base costs for the turbine. The tethers have a balanced left and right forces with left and right tethers to balance the horizontal motion of the balloon. The left and middle tethers balance out the forward and backward motions of the balloon The there are two costs to building this Financial: 7,000 + 55000 = $62000 This whole project would cost 62000 dollars Social 4 + 0 = +4 This would give a social boast of =4 social
