Ask for enablers (i.e. claymores, smoke) depending on mission Take a minute to make sure your notes, including from RTO and Team Lead, and thoughts are straight ISSUE THE WARNO ● ● ● ● To the two Team Leaders Minimum requirement – state squad mission twice, planning timeline (recon, rehearsals, OPORD brief (time and audience), SP, on OBJ) Recommended – relevant parts of the situation Team specifics – aid/litter team, EPW team, relevant stuff for each team MAKE A TENTATIVE PLAN ● ● ● ● To the two Team Leaders Say something to the effect of “Here’s how I intend to accomplish this…” Analysis of METT-TC (squad mission, enemy, terrain, weather, time, troops available, civil considerations Develop COAs – ask Team Leaders, “what do you think?” INITIATE MOVEMENT ● ● ● Assign to Team Leaders – conduct initial inspections (i.e. water, ammo, equipment) Conduct rehearsals Conduct five point contingency plan (for recon) – GOTWA (Where going, Others taking, Time to be back, What to do if you don’t return, Actions to take if I take contact) CONDUCT RECON ● ● ● Confirm or deny enemy situation Verify terrain Confirm fighting positions COMPLETE THE PLAN ● Update and refine the terrain model your RTO developed ISSUE THE ORDER ● ● Using your shell Do a back brief SUPERVISE AND REFINE ● Oversee squad prep Other notes ● ● ● Always rehearse actions on contact and OBJ PCC/PCIs Demonstrate command and control of your squad
