The hospitality industry is a major factor of tourism, for it provides the basic needs when
arriving at a destination. Therefore communication, enthusiastic and skillful staff, innovation,
quality service and good reviews plays an integral role.Communication is essential in general,
however effective communication is crucial for the success of any organization within the
hospitality industry. The Seashell Resort evidently lacks communication to be specific
interdepartmental communication, therefore my first objective would be to have a meeting with
all the personnels in my department. During this meeting my objective would be to open
communication between staff and management, re-establish communication between each and
every employee, re-establish and re-affirm the main goal which is to be a profitable entity that
offers quality customer service within a clean and reputable environment. This tactical meeting
would be engaging and feedback from staff would be taken into account as well. At the end of
the meeting each individual must have a clear understanding of their roles, responsibilities, the
goals for the resort, and the strategic plan on how to achieve them with teamwork and
camaraderie. Secondly, weekly tactical meetings would be made mandatory along with quarterly
workshops. Lastly if staff members fail to change in mannerism and work ethic effectively in the
time frame allotted, decisive actions would be made and the process of hiring would begin
promptly. It is more cost effective to hire new staff, than to break bad habits or behaviours.
The low morale of employees at the Seashell Resort is a factor that truly hinders the potential
and productivity of the resort and overall experience of guests, hence the bad reviews and quality
of service. In this case to boost morale, management should aim to be engaging and celebrative
of their staff once targets are being met and productivity rate increases. Some tactics to boost
morale for example are: salary increase, yearly bonus once earned, incentives, fun activities that
result in the winning of prizes which boost engagement among employees and management,
non-work related off compound trips, days allocated so one's uniqueness or talent could be
expressed or shown, etc. Even though financial motivation is quite common in every
organization, they are vastly welcomed by employees. Nevertheless, you have individuals who
are motivated by the act of camaraderie, inclusivity, promotions, being a part of the decision
making process and just being valued as an individual. These are some tactics which could be
used to produce happy, motivated, reliable, productive and efficient employees.
As a result of previous poor management and lack of motivation by employees, poor reviews
hinders the occupancy rate at the resort. Hence paid promotions via social media, radio, tv
advertisement informing customers and potential customers about the discount rates for
birthdays, anniversaries and group specials being offered. The creation and update if necessary
of the resort's social media handle would be a necessity, having an active online presence and
being able to respond to inquiring customers is always a positive factor. I would also aim to
forecast future trends, for example using tik toc to promote the amenities available at the resorts
in a fun way to attract various age groups. Millennials are always looking for cute photographic
or scenery spots, therefore creating one or two throughout the resorts could attract those
individuals, even having a simple neon quote within the lobby or room could generate interest.
Also minor updates of certain finishings, linens, mirrors, scents etc could be a booster for new
and returning customers.
