Circulatory System Quiz Study Guide
TOPIC
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW & BE ABLE TO DO
Functions of the
Circulatory System
-Be able to explain the function of
the circulatory system.
Anatomical
Structures of the
Heart
-Be able to locate each of the
following anatomical terms on a
diagram of a heart:
right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium,
left ventricle, septum, aorta, superior
vena cava, inferior vena cava,
pulmonary arteries, pulmonary veins,
heart valves (You do not need to know
the names of individual valves, but they
may be on the bonus section)
Blood Composition
& Component
Functions
-Be able to list the four main
components of blood: plasma, red
blood cells, white blood cells,
platelets
-Be able to match the functions of
each blood component with its name
Blood Vessels
-Be able to identify differences
among arteries, veins, & capillaries in
structure & function: arteries carry
blood away from the heart, veins
carry blood toward the heart (know
the pulmonary exceptions); veins
have one-way valves, arteries are
thicker to withstand higher pressure
Systemic,
Pulmonary, &
Cardiac Blood Flow
-Be able to trace the path that blood
takes through the heart to the lungs,
out to the body cells and back into
the heart (be able to do this on a
diagram and by identifying structures
it passes)
