Electrochemistry is all about
the role of electron transfer
in electricity, how electrical
charge affects chemical
reactions along with the
importance of oxidation and
reduction.
Oxidation and reduction do
happen in our everyday life,
the
reason why hair is bleached
which is the reaction of
hydrogen peroxide.

Why do apples turn brown?
ELECTROLYSIS
 The use of electric current to stimulate a nonspontaneous reaction.
 Electrolysis can be used to separate a substance
into its original components/elements
and it was through this process that a number of
elements have been discovered and
are still produced in today's industry.

In Electrolysis, an electric
current is sent through an
electrolyte and into solution
in
order to stimulate the flow of
ions necessary to run an
otherwise non-spontaneous
reaction.
Processes involving electrolysis
include:
 electro-refining
 Electrosynthesis
 chloro-alkali process.
 Simply explained, the process
of electrolysis refers to
decomposition of a given
element under the influence of
an electric current.

The first electrolysis was carried out by
Sir Humphrey Davey in the year 1808.
•This experiment revealed new
understandings about the way certain
elements behave
and how they are different from
compounds and ions.

Did you know Koalas are even more lazy than cats?
Koalas don’t have much energy and, when not feasting on
leaves, they spend their time dozing in the branches. Believe it
or not, they can sleep for up to 18 hours a day!
