Metrology Metrology is the science of measurement. It provides a standard for everyday things and processes. Weight, temperature, length and even time is a measurement and it does play a very vital role in our lives. It also creates impact in our economy, health, safety and general well-being. If you are going to look around, it is part of everything that we do. From the clothes we wear, the food that we eat, the buildings we see, Metrology has something to do with it. Even the gadget that we are using right now, we can begin to understand what a large part metrology plays in its design and function. Metrology plays a big role in nation building. Its importance in the society cannot be underestimated, because no nation can develop without advancing this area. It helps improve the quality of life and help our country to be competent with other countries when it comes to development. It is not possible to perform researches without measurements. The researchers of our country need this in understanding their work. The measurements of the drugs that we take also stand out as vital areas in the health sector. Commercial transactions between companies and individuals also need metrology, because it makes transactions easy for buyers and sellers or manufacturers and consumers. Other applications of Metrology include process control in industry, environmental monitoring, medical diagnostics, food production, and forensic survey. In order to establish and ensure the highest level of accuracy, reference measurement and method and must be established. Reference material refers to any material or substance whose property values are appropriately homogeneous and well established to be used for the calibration of an apparatus, assessment of a measurement method, or assigning values to materials. Reference method on the other hand refers to the method of known and proven accuracy, thoroughly validated and experimentally demonstrated to have negligible systematic errors and a high level of precision. These two are necessary, because their proper application provides the best information on the quality of the obtained measurement results. Overall, Analytical Chemistry is an important tool for development. The talk by Dr. Ebarvia highlighted on how this branch could make a difference not just in our country, but in the whole world. The advantages of Metrology are too many to mention. Still from this we can conclude that measurement truly is an economic, social and scientific necessity. We must not underestimate it, because this is our key for development.
