The Body System: Musculoskeletal System
Why is the musculoskeletal system so important? The musculoskeletal system is
composed of two systems: the muscular system and the skeletal system. It provides support,
stability, and movement to the body. The musculoskeletal system is made up of many bones of
the skeletal system. These bones includes: Muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints, and
other connective tissue. The bones work together with muscles to maintain the body’s position
and to produce controlled, precise movements.
The musculoskeletal is made up of hard and soft tissues. The hard tissue includes bones
and cartilages. The soft tissues are the muscles, tendons, synovial membranes, joints capsules,
and ligaments. The role of the musculoskeletal are movement and support. There are many
functions that the musculoskeletal system has such as the protection of vital structures,
provision of body forms, stability, storage of salts, and formation and supply of new blood cells.
This body system primarily describes the movements produced at joints, which as a basic
principle is based on the location of the muscle in relation to the joint and attachment to bones
forming the joint. There are diseases and disorders that may adversely affect the function and
overall effectiveness of the system. These diseases can be difficult to diagnose due to the close
relation of the musculoskeletal system to other internal systems.
The musculoskeletal system primary function includes supporting the body, allowing
motion, and protecting vital organs. This organ system gives both animals and humans the
ability to move, using the combined actions of the muscular and skeletal system. The
musculoskeletal system is very important, and play a major part in the functionality of the
human body.
